    Hi, I bought a cheap T2330 R61i Lenovo,
I want to upgrade it to T5500 or better, I think i can buy a cheap CPU in ebay. I did it before for my compaq - amd turion x2, so i think i can do it myself,
I went to lenovo website to understand what is supported, but i couldnt sort it out.
can anyone help me sort this out?
    here is the address:

    The compatible processors are: T7250 (not recommended because of 2MB L2 cache), T7300, T7500, T7700, T8100, T8300, T9300, T9500

Don't even bother with the T5xxx processors

You might need a BIOS update for the T8x00 or T9x00 CPUs

When you upgrade the CPU, it is advisable to upgrade to faster RAM (to DDR2-667/PC2-5300), if possible.

    Ok, I have a 667 DDR2 memory already,
2 Gb of it, i installed an extra.
    So,
how can i learn my socket type?
and so, you tell me that i shouldnt change my cpu because it has 2 mb cache.?
i know that r61i - t5500 and my model r61i-t2330 motherboard have similar 965 intel specs.
But, i didnt see t2330 in the link that i have posted here, that is my real question.

The first link I send you shows your CPU as socket P however Intel does make the same CPU in multiple socket types. You will need to find your CPU's specification # to make sure. You can do a "parts lookup" on Lenovo's website with your serial # to get the specific parts installed in your laptop. Finally changing the CPU is not that hard.

You will have to look through the available BIOSes on the Lenovo website until you find one that matches your machine in as many ways as possible except with the higher class CPU installed. Basically, it needs to be your machine except with a T5XXX, T7XXX, T8XXX, T9XXX, etc.

I'm pretty confident that the socket type is the same. Wiki tells me so :)

You can tell what kind of socket you have by looking at the chipset:
Mobile 965 series (Santa Rosa): Socket P
    Mobile 945 (Napa)/915/845 series: Socket M

Since you have a GM965 chipset, you have a Socket P CPU. I think all R61i/R61 BIOSs are compatible, so just update to the latest for your model.
