    I get my T400 with 2G DDR3 memory, supposedly.

However, I can't verify the type of the memory. System Information for Windows (SIW) reports it is DDR2 and the speed is 667M. CPUZ also says it is DDR2. HWiNFO32 says it is DDR2 with 520.3M of 2:1 ratio. I google for the DD3 verification but I still don't know what tool I should use to test it.

When I try to boot into BIOS setup to see if I can find the memory type overthere, it asks for a password. I think there might be a default password, but I cannot find it in the manual.

By the way, I notice the slim panel covering the volume, thinkvantage and the power button flexes up a little bit, and I can push it down slightly. I wonder if it occurs to every T400.

    Thank you for your answers.

We cannot help you bypass a BIOS password, as it is a security measure designed to thwart thieves. I suggest you contact Lenovo about it, they can help once you prove ownership.

I too would like to know about the pw for BIOS. Never knew they had one to be honest. Is this something you get if you have the 200gb HDD with FDE?

The T400 uses DDR3 and isn't compatible with anything else. Programs like CPU-Z don't recognize DDR3 so thye just report it as DDR2. If you really want to be 100% sure, pop the 4 screws out of the bottom that hold the palm rest in and take a look at the RAM itself. You do really have DDR3.

As for the BIOS password, do as suggested before and call Lenovo.

Mine did not come with a bios password, that is stupid why would lenovo put a password on the bios? Just take the battery off the motherboard unless they started saving the passwords in flash or something. It doesn't help someone from not stealing your laptop, physical access to the machine = game over.

And why would someone get banned for posting how to circumvent a bios password? That is ridiculous, what if you forgot your bios password and needed to get around it. Circumventing a bios password is in no way illegal and imho is a ridiculously stupid reason for getting a ban.

i think your logic is a bit off.. providing any means of getting pass a password is illegal. If someone forgot their bios password, it's THEIR FAULT. Thus, they must contact Lenovo simple as that.. clear and cut. Even in this case, supposedly the password was activated in the bios, he/she should still contact Lenovo.

that's just an excuse... that does not justify a reason to provide the means of bypassing the bios password.
