Any 200 PIN DDR2-667 will work with the T61. The "kind" that don't fit are the "kind" that fit into your desktop computer.

    You're on the right track.

thank you for you guys inputs.

If I upgrade to 2GB x 2 on WinXP, may I use 3GB memory? or the T61 can only detect 2GB?

    32bit OS will recognize ~3gb
64bit OS will recognize all 4gb

    T61 can go to 4GB. I'm typing on a T61 with 4GB right now.

How much RAM do you currently have? Is it in a single memory module, or split among two?

I currently have 1GB x 2 on my pc, so I'd like to upgrade to 3GB on WinXP.

I am curious that if I upgrade to 2GB x 2 at once, does winxp recognise 3GB.

Windows XP (other than the rare XP Professional 64-bit edition) is 32-bit, so you will see roughly 3.25GB of RAM, more or less.

Windows XP 32-bit can only use a maximum of 3GB of RAM for programs, but will load device drivers and some system files into the space between 3GB and 4GB.

Also, the T61 supports dual-channel memory, so having both modules be the same will make it a very teensy bit faster. This is more useful if you have Intel integrated graphics than if you have the nVidia card, as integrated graphics uses system memory.

    A 4GB (2 x 2GB) kit will be slightly cheaper than two 2GB modules. Here's another link.

Yes, you're right as usual Lonewolf. A 32 bit machine will byte address all bytes in a 32 bit or 4gb machine.

Don't worry. I won't let it go to my head. ;)
