Would like to know the part usually being shipped with thinkpads for the 7200rpm 100GB drives and the 5400rpm 160GB drives now... if anyone has received a 160gb yet (they were held up for a long time)

    My 120GB 5400rpm drive was a Hitachi 5K160.

    I upgraded to a 160GB 7200rpm Seagate 7200.2 on my own, but I guess that's a different story.

The Seagate 100gb 7200rpm has a good rep.

Did anyone get a 160GB drive shipped with theirs yet? What part# or brand/model of drive?

Hmm interesting. Perhaps the explanation rests in whom their respective advertisers are.

I ordered two T61s and both came with 160GB Hitachi drives (TRYS B160 HGST - FRU#42t1419).

They're so well-behaved, I don't even know they're there. What am I going to do with 135GB of free space? My daughter suggested that I back up all my music CD's because they're disintegrating (according to her). :D

Nah, according to the University of Michigan (great school, I wish I could go :( ), optical media can last 25-100 years. http://www.umich.edu/~sites/media/

If you back up your music, it's because carrying it all digitally on a hard drive or mp3 player is loads more convenient then messing with a crapload of CD's.
