Ive been looking all around these(and other) forums but I still cant find a reason why some people get 8-9 watts when browsing at low settings while others get 12-15. As you may have guessed I'm of the second category and I'd like to get as much battery life as possible. So if you could post you wattage when browsing(wireless on, bluetooth off) and your configuration as well as anything that might be related I would be very grateful.
Ive recently done a clean install to Vista Business x64 however all the power profile settings and drivers are there. My system config is:
    Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P8400 (2.26GHz 1066MHz 3MBL2) 25W
Operating system: Genuine Windows Vista Home Basic

simple, people get 11-12 watts on clean system installs or installing a system through the RDVD, such cd's are not made "exactly" to suit your system settings. The best power profile you get is tuned into your windows it comes with.

BTW 8.89 watts average here on Energy star...everything default
although I usually turn off the cd drive.

    I have P8600 25w
    3GB
    7k320 hitachi upgrade
    60% screen
    and wifi on
superfetch off / same wattage with it on.

NOTE: if you are a vista user TURN OFF the "Gadget Bar", this thing draws insane amount of power due to constant processing.

as far as I know people did clean installs and are getting 8-9W power consumptions. And why would reinstalling from an rdvd get you different power consumption than original , as far as i can tell the rdvds are just an image of what lenovo installed for you. Also even if this is so, does anyone knows how to fix this? Ive tried the thing with editing the power schemes in the registry but thats no different from editing in the power manager and it does not help.

I get 10-12W browsing with XP Pro

The thing that ups the wattage is that the HDD never goes to standby in XP, esp with AVG and ZoneAlarm

I am beginning to wonder if I did the right thing not ordering Vista, but that would have cost me $50 for Turbo Memory and $70 for 3 vs the 2Gb I have now, altogether $120+tax(NY!)=$130 more.

Even with no browsing, HDD activity at minimum, before having installed antivirus and firewall, I never got better than 8.5W

i noticed there is something accessing the hard drive every few seconds but the access seems so minor I would expect the stuff to be cached by turbomem however the accessing never stops, is there any way to fix this?

It is probably the optical drive. There is a thread on here about it.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=300595&page=5
Set your optical drive to power off when inactive in the Power Manager and when it powers off, the HDD light will stop flashing every second.
