I just got a new Lenovo x230. Lenovo seems to have pre-installed significant amounts of software (See the pic below). Some I obviously want to remove like the Norton Internet Secuirity Suite but with others it is hard to know their utility.

Is it worth it to totally reinstall windows and all drivers?

Which of the Lenovo specific software it worth keeping?

Define worth, then we'll talk. Personally, I do a clean install, but then I make an image that I use for the rest of the time I own the PC/Notebook. I can then put the image back and do any updates as needed.

I uninstalled Live and unnecessary stuff but left all the Lenovo software. My X220t with all that preloaded software still booted in 15 seconds with an SSD?

    I'd remove the following:

    • Lenovo Welcome
    • Lenovo User Guide
    • Lenovo Solution Center
    • Lenovo Message Center Plus
    • Access Connections
    • Lenovo SimpleTap
    • Norton Internet Security 2012
    • Skype for Windows
    • Evernote
    • Intel Small Business Advantage
    • RapidBoot HDD Accelerator
    • Symantec VIP
    • Windows Live Essentials
    • Microsoft Office 2010 preloaded
    • Corel WinDVD
    • Corel Burn.Now Lenovo Edition
    • Corel DVD MovieFactory Lenovo Edition

Minimalistically, the ones to keep are:

    • ThinkVantage Power Manager
    • On Screen Display

After creating the recovery discs, I do a clean Windows 7 install with the required drivers, then selectively install the Lenovo applications. I also carefully manage the startup list.

Before other applications, my system's "disk" footprint is about 20GB.

Kaso's list is pretty good, but I'd also keep Active Protection System if you have a HDD installed.

Sorry to bump up this thread. I would just like to ask a few question.
    1. how do you selectively install the leonovo application?
    2. how do you manage the startup list ?
    Thanks

First, know what you want. Second, go through the SWTOOLS folder's subfolders and install only those applications.

By bringing up msconfig and reviewing the startup list, disabling the startup items you consider unnecessary.

I guess you could come back and ask, "How do you make such considerations?" :)
