    Hello, everyone.

I'm having a hard time to evaluate what is actually a good price (with the student discount) for the T60 I'm considering. Hence, I would really like to hear your opinions. What would be the best student price that I could expect for this machine:

    ThinkPad T60 2613HKU
    - Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 (2GHz, 4MB L2, 667MHz FSB) (Standard)
    - 1.5GBMB PC2-5300 CL5 NP DDR2 SDRAM SODIMM
    - 128MB ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 HyperMemory (Standard)
    - 100GB 7200rpm SATA Hard Drive
    - CD-RW/DVD-ROM Combo Ultrabay Slim Drive
    - ThinkPad 11a/b/g Wireless LAN MiniPCI Express Adapter
    - ThinkPad 6 Cell Li-Ion Battery

If I go directly to Lenovo's website and configure it there, the price is $1,693.00. The guy from Lenovo gave me a quote (theoretically with a student discount) for $1,636.02. So, is the web price already really good or there was no actual discount in the quote?

    Thanks a lot!

    Daniel

The best student price would be $1,636.02.

There might be more of a price different if Lenovo didn't have a free memory offer right now, which you probably don't get with the student price.

So, Nooorm, what exactly are you saying:

    1) The web price is really very good nowadays and it might go up soon; the student price is ok and it should stay around that value

    2) The web price is good (and might go even down soon) and the student price is incorrect

I'm concerned because I heard that Lenovo is going ot update their prices very soon...

Every laptop manufacturer updates there prices periodically. It's the gamble you take if you want to wait out. If you need the notebook now, buy it. Every notebook configured today will go down in price in the future, I guarentee it.

I would call lenovo and tell them that the online price is the same as the student price. They should do something for you, like take a % off. I think you are right though, prices will probably drop for a while for two reasons... 1. holiday shopping season and 2. when the santa rosa platform comes out. Unfortunately for me, the T60 I configured came out to be about $70 less AFTER the free memory, etc deal with my same configuration. As always, it depends on the CSR you got on the phone.

Neither. Agreed, Thinkpad prices are better since Lenovo bought them.

What I was saying is that the student price was discounted, but it probably didn't include the Free 512 RAM on lenovo.com. So, that discount on the website would close the gap between the web price and the student price. If you add the $90 (Free RAM) back in, the student price looks like a better discount off the web price. Right?
