I just bought a T60 with the Atheros 802.11a/b/g/n wireless card. Anyone have suggestions for a router that would work well with it, anyone using the card currently? I will obviously be using a wireless network for internet access, but also for Slingbox.

I presume the router will need to be 802.11 a/b/g/n wireless compatible. This may help:

Seems like an agreement is between Atheros and D-Link.Last edited by a moderator: Jan 29, 2015 -
Thanks, that helps.
Any idea what happens when a notebook with a new N wireless card, and one with an old intel G card, say 2200, both try and use the same router at the same time? -
I think most wireless networks will tend to take a performance hit running in a mixed protocol environment, but they'll work just fine.
-
When transferring data between a G and N, the transfer rate will take on the lower value, that of G typically.
-
Right, when going between the two. But say the N notebook is using the wireless while using the slingbox, and the G is just surfing the internet on the same wireless network. Will they both be at G speeds?
-
What exactly is this slingbox? And No it shouldn't, if the router supports n, the laptop with that wireless will utilize n, while the other will g. Likewise if you have a third 'a' laptop, it will utilize that wave.

I also orderd Thinkpad 11n simply because it might require built-in antennae different from those of 11abg. Obviously it was impossible to have this conjecture confirmed or denied by Lenovo people as their sales people know no more than you and I.
I also recognize that the technology on 11n has not yet been finalized, so we will problably end up upgrading the card's firmware in the future, possibly nmore than once.
I am not, however, going to buy 11n router in the near future because my current 11abg wireless router will be sufficient for the time being. The router can be replaced any time with not much sweat. -
The way to tell about the antenna would be to compare the FRU's. IBM service will know those. -
Turns out there is one router that is gauranteed to work. Asus WL-500
-
gauranteed to be compliant with the final version of n that is...
-
I have no doubt other companies like Linksys and Netgear will do the same.
What is important to me is that Lenovo will hornor their 3-year warranty toward the notebook including its 11n card.
If routers and cards are compatible with the 11n standard, both ought to be compatible with each other. It is a simple logic, isn't it?
What router to use with Atheros 11n?
