if you go to configure a Lenovo X61 (not X61S)

you get an option of the T7500 NV, and it's cheaper than the 7300.

Just a wild guess, but perhaps No Virtualization?

Although the T7500 normally supports Virtualization.

Maybe it has a smaller L2 cache than the regular T7500.

There are no such thing as low voltage T7500. And X61 has all normal volt processors.

I do not know what the NV stands for. But when you select the "NV" processor on the Lenovo web site the display type (on a ThinkPad X61) changes to "TFT".

It is NO-VT,NO Intel Virtualization Technology, for cheaper price.

I don't think it has anything to do with virtualization.

When you have the configuration page open, switch between the T7500 and the T7500 NV and look down at the display option. You'll see the options switch between 12.1" XGA TFT with the T7500 selection and 12.1" XGA STD, 2x3 UltraConnect II antenna with the T7500 NV selection.

It's a retractable antenna that sticks out the side. You can see a diagram here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67822

They must really want you to have that antenna because it's cheaper.

There is a $220 difference between the regular T7500 and the T7500 NV on the basic X61. Adding an Ultraconnect antenna would not really justify a price decrease, especially of that magnitude.

Either these "NV" cpus were C2D rejects and have been neutured in some way (something that does happen with cpu batches, which makes them a cheap & attractive offering to OEMs), or selection of an "NV" model subtracts something expensive from the X61 (and they are not telling you what).

Not really. A common user does not use programs such as VMware to run virtual environments.
