I go to look at my tracking info for my T61p and what the hell does this mean?
" Your package has experienced an exception. "
"THE SHIPMENT IS BEING HELD BY BROKERAGE FOR REASONS BEYOND UPS' CONTROL"

If you're importing from another country and didn't use a UPS service that included brokerage services (aka customs clearance) - then you're probably going to be paying an ear and a nose to those crooks (some random broker).
The first time I used UPS Standard (Ground) I naively thought it was the cheapest shipping method for my $30 purchase; low and behold when the item actually came - I was greeted with a $50 'Brokerage Fee'
After that, I asked a friend to ship something to me here in Canada from the US - he let the idiots at the UPS store persuade him to use a UPS service other than what I specified - resulting in me paying $50 in Brokerage Fees for a $40 item to some Random Crook (Broker)
After that, I learnt NEVER, EVER to Let anyone who was shipping anything to me use anything BUT services which included brokerage services (customs clearance) - As there's no way in Hell am I going to be knowingly Ripped off by some random Crook!
From then on, I've been using UPS Worldwide Expedited to ship things from the US to Canada. Example of 4 shipments costing $70 each last year using said service -> I paid $25 in shipping and that was ALL I paid - No Robbery by some Random Crook (Broker), etc. etc.
Even with my purchase of a laptop from Costco in the US just a couple weeks ago, I made sure that it was shipped Via UPS Worldwide Expedited again, and Surprise-Surprise! No more surprise charges/highway Robbery
*Food for thought for anyone ever buying things from the US*

That doesnt answer anything!
Where is my package and what the hell is this delay about?
I am not paying $hit extra for this BS. -
K, it's simple:
1. Read what you posted first.
2. Read what I posted.
If you can't figure it out - then maybe someone else will come along and help you put the concept together; personally, after typing out all that $hit for someone in detail and seeing your response, I'm really not inclined to say much more.

j0rdy was trying to help you by telling you his experience. Regardless of whether you feel he helped you or not, or whether that was the answer you expected, insulting him or just being plain rude/ungrateful/obnoxious is not going to help anything.

to make matters short, this is a problem sometimes experienced by buyers when Lenovo forgets to add the clearance info to the shipping details. You do not have to pay a dime. UPS will contact lenovo and this will be sorted out . Your shipment will probably be delayed by at most 2-3 days.
-
I had the same thing happen, it pushed the arrival date back a day. No charge, and it still came when it orignally said it would.
-
That sounds like it is illegal how can they sell you something and charge you shipping then charge you to release the item to you -
its how the federale work in mexico....arrest you for something bogus and you pay them to release you, haha...
-
a little search in the 76-page thread on shipdates would have prevented this whining.
-
In America you won't have to pay anything extra. You'll get it in a few days, just calm down.
-
Wow you guys need to relax. This is past the point of being rediculous.
Perhaps it is time to move away from the computer to get some sunlight a vitamin-D you grouchy guss' -
Ok, since everyone is screaming their guts out, I'll give you some important info. which *might* make everyone calm.
I don't know what the exact issues here is with the customs. I'm assuming they don't have the invoice or a clearance from IBM/Lenovo.
This is what you can do:
Call UPS customs desk in Louisville, KY. Their phone number is 502-247-2429.
Give them your tracking number and let them know you package has encountered an exception.
Then they'll pull up the 'main' order which requires clearance from IBM. They can track this 'main' order which is usually a shipment of 400-1000 pieces.
They will then let you know if they received the necessary paperwork.
One confirmed it'll go to US customs.
Usually one business day to get it delivered to your door irrespective of the shipment method you chose.
Mine two orders took one business day hit, but they all arrived by 10:30 am the following business day. -
Everyone seems to be acting like this is abnormal. This is infact a completely expected message. This is the message UPS posts up when your package is in customs, they can do nothing to speed it up, therefore its beyond their control. Everyone whos package has come to the US is going to get this message.
-
How about hitting that search button first before creating another ridiculous thread? -
There is nothing here to be alarmed about. The package is in customs, likely in a shipping crates with tons of other things pads. Usually within 24 hours some customs official makes sure its not a giant case of contraband then sends the good on their way.

I recently bought a sword from the US and it cost me 40% to get it through brokerage from UPS. I wish I had read this thread befor that...

P.S. If you chose UPS Standard, UPS isn't the broker - they only paid on your behalf (to the Random Crook that cleared your goods) and collected from you later.
For future reference, Worldwide expedited is WAAYY Faster than Standard - also taking into account that you'll be either paying less, or at the most - the same amount you would the random crook (broker). -

hey buddy dont worry about that. ther is nothing wrong with your package. well the reason for that is that it is coming from china. and it is international so they just hold it for like 5hrs more. but you know something. ther is nothing wrong with it. you will still get it when you suppose to get it. all of the thinkpad owns have to go through that problem too
just dont sweat it. trust me -
Here's what you do. Call UPS International to make sure it's a hold beyond UPS Control. They tell you Lenovo didn't pay the brokerage fee. Then you call Lenovo and tell them UPS told you about someone not paying the broker's fee. You'll be told package will be released and on to final destination.

just came straight to my house. my guess is that they already cleared it before shipping it to the US. -
checked tracking again, it seems it went through 2 of these customs holds and now it is in Alaska in rout to Kentucky next. Should get it by saturday I hope.
Thanks for the help to the individuals who didn't freak out and do not have sand in their vag. -
Nough said. -
