+ 1 right here. But that's just me.

With that said, all of us should try to get back on the topic...I wonder where OP stands right now.

    hi zaz,

i stand corrected on Dell, I do think the dell e6420 was a pretty amazing 14" machine. I think it was 1st gen i5, i7 intels....

and back to topic...it seems i'm the only one so far who gave any recommendations to replace the X201! ;)

None of these can replace an X201 with the exception of the HP 820 G1 (and the 2170p, but thats old already). An X240 is much better suited to replace the X201 than a Folio 1020 (which is sort of a MBA clone with the Elitebook logo) or the BU201 with its bad battery performance - 32 Wh of battery capacity is not enough.

Besides, the X240 ist of higher quality then the X220 you don´t like.

And, regarding the "Chinese" topic: Lenovo isn´t a purely chinese company - they are a mixture of IBM and the former Lenovo, and ThinkPads /T/W/X/L) are mostly engineered in Japan.

HP 2170p is older but its newer than the X201 and its very good price/performance ratio. U can get a nice one for $500 range...

How do you know the AsusPro BU201 has bad battery? I havent read any reports. I assume it will at least 6-7 hrs since Asus is claiming 10 hrs..

    thanks..

If they are claiming that, they are crazy.

The BU201 has a very small 32 Wh battery (reducing battery capacity is a good way to reduce cost and weight). Notebookcheck tested it, roughly 3.5 hrs while surfing: Asus ASUSPRO Advanced BU201LA-DT036G Ultrabook Review - NotebookCheck.net Reviews Even on Idle, its far, far away from reaching 10 hrs. Building an Ultrabook in the Subnotebook size with such a small battery is a failure.

In contrast, 46 Wh that you get with the Elitebook 820 or the X240 are much more sufficient - the X240 can be even configured with 95 Wh of battery capacity with the expanded 72 Wh 6-cell battery.

great find on that review! thanks!

very disappointing on that battery life! that is like going backwards! It has worse battery than my HP 2170p. I get a clean 4:15 hrs every time.

yes..i agree, this battery kills this laptop as a contender. modern present day laptop need at least 5-6 hrs REAL WORLD usage.

As for the X201, its amazing that there are some nice examples on ebay now for about $200.

During those x201 days I could not afford one. I went with Elitebook 2530p, that was a good machine except for the troublesome 1.8inch hdd. 2530p served me well for a couple of years afore it got stolen. Then I moved to Latitude E6320, performancewise the latitude is good with decent keyboard and only slight penalty in weight (for me that is). Knowing Latitudes as I do now I kinda think that a decent replacement for x201 is the Latitude E6230 if one can still be found. Full voltage ivy just has more edge over LV processor albeit at some trade off in batt runtime. In my neck of the wood dells are cheaper than Lenovos so I suppose I am a bit biased because of the disparity in prices. I have also tried Latitude E7240 but I found that the squishy keyboard is not to my liking. I am tapping this on an E6230 which I may decide its for keep and pass on the still good running but bigger E6320. As for battery runtime I do carry a spare so I am never in want of power outlet when I am out and about.
