    Help me decide!
What to choose... this T43 (the one on the right with high res and 7200rpm hdd)
    http://caipsgws001.can.ibm.com/stor...ool=0&cells=0&title=0&bannerkey=0&aud=EA1VISA

or this X41 (the one on the left + extra 1gb ram of course ^^)
    http://caipsgws001.can.ibm.com/stor...ool=0&cells=0&title=0&bannerkey=0&aud=EA1VISA

now I'm confused... I want to order something tommorrow and dont know what?

the main question is - how long will T43 last on standard battery + ultrabay battery?

and how will lower resolutions look on 1450x1050 screen? If I would like to play some games, wont it look ugly on resolution diffrent than nominal?

dunno what to choose - amazing mobility vs big screen (big in terms of alot of place... I'm doing some programming so it would be fun to have such screen)...

If you can afford it, definitely go with the T43. Its larger screen will be very nice for you during programming AND gaming.. gaming won't be AS great since the native resolution is so high, but it won't be that bad - during gaming at least. If you plan to run at lower resolutions in Windows, then it will look kind of blurry.

The T43 isn't that heavy either... either way, you can't really go wrong with a T43.

    Best of luck,
    AuroraS

My T42 goes 6-6.5 with the nine cell and modular batteries on medium settings and WiFi on. I'd expect the T43 to be a little less. The FlexView screen on the T43 is very good. If you need mobility the x41 is the way to go. Might want to look at x32 which uses standard notebook hard drive and Dothan Pentium M for much better performance, but a little heavier. Good Luck.

zazonz, what about heat? 7200rpm hdd should generate some... isnt it making the fan working often?

The 7200 does run warmer, but it is not too bad. You notice it more on the 14" which is thinner.

Hmm... I've decided that I'd go for that T43...
I wish it had 5400rpm hdd, but well... I can stand 7200rpm drive ^_^ if i have no choice :)

Anyway, similliar model costs in the UK twice as much, so if I wont like it, ill sell it in a blink (I hope this is the right phrase for very very fast)

BTW, does sidestep allow user to adjust speed or does it work in automatic mode?

Most T43s come with 5400RPM drives as the the 7200s are in short supply.

I'm loving my X40, so easily carriable. But for programming a larger screen would probably be more desirable.

I think that the T series and X series need not be compared. It all depends on the primary need - whether you need something ultraportable and usable (X) or ultrausable and portable (T).

I have an x41 Tablet and a T43p with a 15" screen. I really like them both. I bought both with the intention of keeping one or the other. However, I have kept both. The 15" flex view screen is superb - it is easy on my eyes (even on the native resolution with larger fonts). The color seems very accurate. The viewing angles are wide and the there is lots of room to work. It is also very fast and never gets bogged down with lots of applications running or switching among them quickly.

Compared to the x41 tablet, the T43, is huge and heavy. The x41 screen is very nice too. It is not as bright as the T43s nor is it as crisp. I prefer it to my T30's 14" screen. The 4200rpm hard drive is rather pokey. However, I have gotten used to it. Other than reading or writing to and from the hard drive, the tablets performance is pretty snappy. Although, I do not use a lot of really processor hungry applications.

It is a difficult decision which one to use. When I am at home at my desk, I will use the T43. When I leave the house, I always take the tablet with me. Sometimes, I bring both with me - never just the t43. At home and at work, I have an external monitor a hooked up to the tablet. That makes a big difference to me for extended periods of use. If I did not have one and was always on the road, I would probably opt for a T43 with a 14" screen.

I say the T43. it seems much more capable, and you're only real sacrifice is some size and weight. :)

I actually use an X41 as my main PC believe it or not, I also use an external monitor for any programming I do when using it. Since I travel quite a bit, don't game and carry my laptop around a fair amount the X41 suits me -- I don't have a car and lead a fairly pedestrian lifestyle. I used to have the T40 as my main PC and loved it, and used the T43 for a couple of months when reviewing it. If I lived in the midwest like I used to and had a car I'd definitely go with the T43 as I wouldn't be walking so much, but at the moment I really appreciate the lightness of the X41 and it's great for taking into coffee shops and the like too. I think dr_st put it best in his post above.

I use an X 21 as my main PC :D

I suggest the X32 if you only want one laptop. It's a great compromise between mobility (3.6 pounds when out of base) and performance (up to 2GHz Dothans, up to 2GB RAM, any standard notebook HDD, up to 100GB 7200RPM or 120GB 5400RPM). The X41 AT MOST has a 1.5 LV Dothan, 1.5GB RAM, and a 60GB 4200RPM iPod HDD.

The X41 DOES have the advantage that the integrated iGMA900 is a better GPU than the ATi Mobility Radeon 7000 16MB in the X32, though... And, of course, it's smaller :p

If you want two PCs, though, I suggest getting a T43 AND an X41 :D
