    Hi,

Ive got an X301 which has suffered a system board failure and is out of warranty.

The quote I received from Lenovo to replace the system board is excessive and not worth it.

The laptop itself is in top notch condition and comes with the parts listed in my signature.

Besides scavenging some parts such as the SSD, RAM and network cards whats the best thing to do with the laptop ?

    I've thought about that.

What would be the going rate for a busted X301 on ebay sans a few components ?

Ya try to part it out on Ebay...but not too many on Ebay to give you a price range...maybe 300-400 for parts?

what exactly is the problem. I would ask my friend whether he wants it, he has x301 with busted LCD and casing.

It was a BIOS flash gone wrong. Bricked the motherboard.

One long and two short beeps = system board failure.

Trying to resurrect it by lenovo's recovery method hasnt worked either.

I would definately be interested in selling it to a fellow Aussie.

In the beginning of this year I bought an out of warranty X301 ($600) and the motherboard failed through its own accord within a few hours. The seller was nice enough to give me a couple hundred for a new motherboard, but instead of replacing it I parted it out. Made more selling parts individually than I even paid for it. Sold the lcd assembly for around 400, oem 64gb ssd for 100+, plus smaller parts like ram and misc components. Still have the keyboard, palmrest and some chassis parts that I never got around to getting sold. If you sell the whole thing to someone be mindful of how much you can part it out for and ask for a price accordingly.

Btw, it's awesome that you have UWB. I always thought it was a great idea, but it just never seemed to get off the ground. I believe Samsung is or already has released their very expensive but very nice UWB monitor that also serves as a dock.
