I've been looking at the new Thinkpad X131e. At the moment you can only get it from Lenovo and it therefore takes a few weeks delivery. I leave the country in a few weeks so I'm reluctant to take the risk incase it's delayed and arrives after I leave (late delivery seems to be an issue with Lenovo in the UK).

I've been looking at the X121e as well. I can't see any major difference between the two models. They sell the X121e and the X131e in the UK and spec wise they look the same.

I customised an order for an X131e and I could upgrade the ram to 8GB and apply a few other small upgrades and it was still cheaper than what the X121e is selling for in the UK.

Are there are differences between these two models?

    Thanks,
    Kevin

Sounds like it's just a small cosmetic change. Don't understand why the x131 is cheaper, even when I double the ram from 4GB to 8GB.

Does anyone know how reliable Lenovo are for deliveries in the UK?

Hi, just to say I ordered the X131e (Intel) from Lenovo store on August 8th and it has just been delievered today (whilst I am at work so can't wait to get home!!). So that is a total of 13 days from order placed to being delievered. The only change I made was for it to have a 3G card installed.

X131e is definitely newer than the X121e and also has a faster CPU and higher clocked graphics card (When looking at the intel versions).

What I don't understand is that intel's own specifications state the Core i3-2367M ULV can have up to 16gb of ram but all the laptops which have this CPU state max 8gb ram... confused.

the sandy bridge and ivy bridge CPU can support 8 gigs per dimm slot, the reason that the manufacturer claim 8 gigs max was due to the fact that was the highest testing they have done. In lot of companies, all equipment and upgrades used on the system must be certified, so if a fault occurs there is an easy trace-ability to the fault origin. For these customers stability outweighs all other criteria. Also, this helps to take away guess work for the hardware support staffs when it comes to upgrading and servicing their machines. For regular consumers extending the life of their machines are one of the biggest consideration, while for enterprise customers whom change their machines every 2 to 4 years, this may not be the biggest issue.

Intel on the hand updates their website as more testing occurs, which maybe independent to the computer companies. Just like Nvidia and ATI may release graphics driver for end consumers, while computer manufacturers would test and release modified version of drivers that lags the release cycle. Sometimes after a 3 or 4 years the computer manufacturers would stop testing and releasing updated drivers for that generation of laptops, while company like ATI or Nvidia may continue to release new drivers.
