Yea, it's normal. It's in customs. I don't know why, but it always seem to require additional documentation. My guess is maybe they mean additional as in additional documentation that's there we just haven't gotten to it yet, as opposed to additional as in we need to get more info.

Well, I wish I could manipulate time. The X201 would already be in my hands.

Just my luck, Customs decides to check it out just before a holiday 3-day weekend. If I don't get it tomorrow, it'll probably be next Tuesday.

They work at night, so you could very well still get it tomorrow.

It could be worse. You could be me. You could have just finished repairing your tranmission, gotten everything sealed up, the fluid level right, everything, and then gone to put the dipstick back in, and the end of the dipstick broke off in the tube and fell in...and because of the holiday cannot get the a new dipstick/pan seal to fix this until Wednesday.

A Jewish person once said "sometimes you're the schlameil and sometimes you're the schilmazel" (no idea if I spelled that right).
With this car, I seem to always be both. I think it's mad at me like Frankenstein's Monster - here I thought I was making an awesome combination of old school luxury and brute power, but instead I just created a monster that doesn't want to exist.

Customs probably decided that they wanted to play with your thinkpads a bit.

I hope they put in on a plane soon or I won't get it until next Tuesday (I don't think they deliver on Saturdays with 2-day business shipping). Tomorrow starts a 3-day weekend in the USA, (4th of July holiday - Independence Day).

I believe the 2 day refers to 2 days once within the US. What is UPS listing as the delivery date?

Initially, they said delivery on 6/30. Then they changed it to 7/1. That was a couple days ago. Now they're not even giving me a delivery date. I wish Newegg carried this model -- they can have your order in your hands in less than 24 hours (FedEx).

newegg laptops are prebuilt, your laptop is made to order and shipped from overseas, this is slightly different.

Actually, I believe mine was pre-built because it was a "sale" item and I didn't change the default configuration at all. But what marlinspike says makes sense -- 2-days once it hits the U.S. Well, it arrived in Anchorage on 6/30, nearly 48 hours ago and the latest tracking info has it still in California with no departure scan.

But, perhaps they don't consider it having really "arrived" in the U.S. until it gets the "import scan", which was just about 7 hours ago. So why isn't it on a plane already? Holiday weekend maybe? I need to take a Xanax and just forget about it until next week.

Mine arrived here in Eastern VA the same day it had its post-clearing agency info import scan in Kentucky (and oddly enough never had a departure scan after that, somehow it went from import scan in KY to out for delivery in VA without anything in between). I'd say if it doesn't say Out for Delivery by 9am your time, you'll know.

I've owned over 20 laptops in the last 5 years. Most of them were junky consumer laptops that gave me nothing but grief, worry and frustration.

In my experience, nothing beats a genuine ThinkPad of the T or X series. (I've never had one of the "W" series.) This is the first time I've ever ordered directly from a manufacturer -- it's a new experience for me and so far, not a pleasant one.

from your post here, it sounds like you're getting the system a full week early.   besides the unpleasantness of self-induced impatience, what's been unpleasant about your experience?

It irks me that they gave me a delivery date of June 30. That was 2 days ago and the tracking info says it's still 1,000 miles away and hasn't been scanned for departure, even though it's already cleared customs. The least they could do is update the delivery date -- send me an email or something. FedEx is, in my experience, much better than UPS at keeping recipients advised on the progress of their shipment. The post you refer to is referencing Lenovo's estimate which I knew would be really conservative. I'm not upset with Lenovo, it's UPS.

understood.   it sounded like you were upset with Lenovo.

UPS and customs are what they are.   unfortunately the process either goes quickly, takes a few days, or gets hung up for a week.   it happens with any shipping company.

my suggestion is to not watch the pot boil.   if your system arrives on the 6th for some reason then it's still a day earlier than you were originally given as an estimated shipping date from Lenovo.   you'd still be a week ahead of schedule at that point.

try to find the positive here.   impatience will only drive you mad. ;)

Looks like it's stuck in Customs over the 3-day weekend. Oh well, Tuesday the 6th I should have it since Monday is a Federal Holiday. It's now received the 2nd import scan:

Looks like Lenovo's initial delivery estimate was pretty accurate. I didn't factor in the holiday weekend. I placed the order on June 24th.

I'm not sure if that's normal or not, but why would there be a custom check at CA, but not AK? I thought all custom checks are done at the state in which you or your item enter.

I don't know. I talked to a UPS guy today and he said they have no control over what U.S. Customs does. He also said they aren't working again until Tuesday (unless you specified Saturday delivery, which Lenovo doesn't offer).
EDIT: Recently got a departure scan in Ontario, CA, US. It's on the way but it'll sit around locally until Tuesday. At least it'll be at the local UPS hub and get delivered Tuesday for sure (unless they're overwhelmed by the holiday crush of packages).
