What's going on with my SL400 screen/backlight? See pictures.

My SL400 of 30-31 months has taken quite a beating over the past few years. Recently, I've been experiencing a new problem.

Started a few weeks ago with the backlight randomly turning off. I would need to play with the screen (opening and closing the lid) to get it "working" again.

However, yesterday I noticed something weird on the bottom right corner of my screen:

This black "burn" thing on my screen happens every once in a while. It occurs more frequently when on full brightness. That part of the screen/bezel gets pretty hot when it happens. If I touch it/apply some pressure, it goes back to normal:

So what's going on here?

I'm leaning towards a possible pinched wire leading to the backlight. The inverter could be going too. I'm not familiar with the SL400 but that's what I would be checking into.

Thanks for your input. I should mention that the hinge right under is busted open (possibly aggravating it more/putting more pressure on the wires?).
