I hear all of this talk about the T61p so I checked out the T60p on Lenovo's site and I can't figure out what all the fuss is about. As far as I can see it's just a graphics card. Is the case made from some recently-declassified material that is lighter than air and stronger than titanium? Does the battery last 14+ hours? Curious noob doesn't get it.

The GPU is a very big deal to some =)

Also, the screen is 15.4", with a wild resolution. It will be a CAD power house.

Are these sale or preorder, I can't read Nordic languages. The price translates to about 2400 bucks though.

The "p" is a status symbol. P is for Pimp. If you go to class with a T61p you will impress far more than if you had a mere T61. The downside is that the p will cost you more money, provide less battery life, and you will have to wait for ages for it to be available.

Pimps in class? What school do you go to, Florida State?

I kid, I kid. I never realized how much people cared about gaming, er, I mean, serious CAD work.

I personally don't care if it is a "p". If it is Santa Rosa with 15.4" screen and nVidia (140m or 570m) and called T61 that's fine with me.

I'm waiting for the T61p to be released (and then waiting longer for it to finally ship). I basically need a portable CAD station. Consumer level graphics cards are fine for making your menus and windows shiny (Aero) but make any CAD programs (SolidWorks) unusable. So yes, the graphics card matters to some of us.

Is the integrated video card good enough to run Vista Business Edition efficiently?

Good deal man, I guess I'm surprised by how many mobile CAD workers we have on these boards. I always picture engineers in a cube somewhere with massive workstations while the sales-guys get the sexy notebooks.

I'm one of those sales-guys and our little secret is that a 386 is more than enough power for what we do. IT insists on giving us nice new laptops every year so we're not going to say anything. Now if I could just figure out how to bypass the security and install something fun...

Yep, most of the day I'm stuck in a cube working away, but I always have a few side projects going on and I like to be lazy and work from the couch at home :)

While I'm no CAD engineer, I'm a business student that has issues purchasing inferior products when the next step up is only a few hundred dollars.

Never find yourself shortchanged because you made a poor decision in the past.

Think my dad saving 500.00 on NOT getting air conditioning in his 1984 Dodge colt hatchback. Btw, that was a bloody sweaty childhood.

How come the 15.4" T61 doesn't have an option for a non-integrated graphics card yet the 14.1" does?

I want the 15.4" but I want anything other than integrated. Will only the T61P receive GPU options for the 15.4" screen?

I think the 15.4" T61 will get the same GPU options as the current T61 14/1" has, just give it some time for them to work out all of their shipping backlog issues. Maybe they'll release it at the same time as the T61p.

We've been waiting a month for that. Should come July 10/11.

I'm ready to buy, but I'm just waiting for the GPU options to come out for the 15.4".

Or I might just buy the 14.1" or 15.4" with integrated...

The differences for the T61p are the dedicated nVidia Quadro FX 570M 256MB discrete video, the 1920x1200 WUXGA display, the 2GB of RAM on a single 2GB stick, the 100GB 7200RPM drive, standard DVD burner, Bluetooth, 9 cell battery, Vista Ultimate as default OS.
