What's the different between LCD and LED display?
-
led is only the backlight and is an option instead of ccfl
all screens are lcd, they give you picture and "determine the shapes that will appear" -
LED superior. CCFL inferior.
-
LED = brighter, better contrast and better battery life. Viewing angle is about the same.
-
LED is supposed to last long, like CCFL on average can run for 6 yrs non-stop, while the LED version can run for 10yrs or so. But who is going to run them non-stop?
-
I have some laptops that have been runstop for 4 years...still plugging away.
Screen lately have better longevity; I recall back in the late 90's and early 00's, notebook displays would fade; punk out over time. That seems to be less of an issues these days, but dead pixels seems to still be a problem.
The LED backlight does make a difference, and it more energy efficient. Dell said all their displays are going that way by 2009/2010; I'm sure it will become the standard over time, just like SATA replaced PATA. -
I consider LED backlighting to be the greatest technology advancement, for laptops, since Centrino. The screen is, by far, the most used part of the machine.
-
But, of course, OLEDs will end up being a far better advancement than LED-backlit. Much better contrast ratio (resulting in a lower-brightness setting being comfortable) and the fact that dark pixels will actually consume virtually no electricity ... I'm thinking that'll be a big improvement in battery life.
Plus we'll see better dark UIs come out as a result. -
Doesn't OLED rot?
-
They're working on those kinda problems
Once it's fixed, they should last pretty long and help laptops get better battery life and also be more comfortable to view.
