105c ? But it the cpu has auto-shut off at 100c.. The sensor must be far from the cpu or something. It should have shut down at that temperature - or melted.

    For Core 2 Duo T9600 and similar models, the T_junction = 105C.

Or perhaps they are just kidding :)

I've seen youtube videos of Macbook Pro burning above 100C so I think it's possible.

yours runs much cooler because you have it undervolted to 1.025v and the fan at max speed. when I undervolt my T9600 to 1.05V it runs at around 77-79C (folding@home SMP) with the fan set to 7. if I don't undervolt and/or use tpfancontrol with LinX, it throttles within a few minutes and the computer just shuts off after a few more minutes.

this sounds correct, I watched mine hit 104C using throttlestop and it shut off right after that.

Mine hit 100C last night playing Crysis, before it shutdown automatically. If that counts. :p

    AESDecription,

I bet you can lower the VID on your CPU much lower than what you have right now. I run dual IDA on mine at 1.075V, though it passed fine at 1.068V but gave me errors at 1.050V.

At stock frequency I run it at 1.025V, which is again two steps above the level that gave me errors.

and my CPU spec is not from the lowest ones that came from Intel at the time. Undervolting does wonders on Core 2 Duo CPUs though, too bad Intel patched the option of user defined VID for their later CPUs ...

Also, try fan speed 64. Mine activates that level when the temps surpass 65 deg C.

I lowered my VID to 1.075V and it reached 17.3868 GFlops, temperature reached 96c this time (see log file below). When my T61 hit over 105c, the T61 didn't shutdown but rather it went blank. The system was on (CPU, HDD, motherboard, wifi, etc), but it didn't shutdown like you guys said it would until I used the Power Off button.

Hah, I didn't know that some CPUs now get over 100c. I stand corrected.

Btw AESdecryption, we have the same wallpaper :>

I used to get around 85c and voted as such, but now I get <77c after picking up a mesh laptop stand that lifts the back up by two inches (and this is without using the stand's fan). Clearly the airflow under the machine needed a slight bit of optimization. My idle temps are 42-47c. The system seems to respond very quickly to temperature changes.

Nice to have cool laptop, isnt it :) mine also sits on 1" stands almost all the time. In real heavy usage it doesnt go above 73 deg C, and that is when Unreal Tournament 3 maxes out my cpu as well as the gpu. Most of the other 1 st person shooter games that i have do not max out the cpu.

If I bump this 1-year-old thread, what results would these Ivy Bridge laptops get?
