    Hey peeps,

I'm thinking of getting a T61 really soon and I'm wondering what's the highest discount possible right now? I managed to configure this with student discount for $882. Is it good or could there be more discount?

Thanks Joe. I used usxthinkmadness. Are they stackable?

I've been using my t40 for 4.5 years now. At that time it cost me $1,500. I can't believe these thinkpads are twice as cheap now. I think my T40's gpu is dying, horizontal lines on screen.

Anyway, i'm excited on getting a T61. Been thinking if I should wait for the new line but the prices are so great now.

No I don't think they are stackable.

You might as well go for Vista since XP is now obsolete.

If i were you i'd wait at least a week until this current "promotion" is over and see if the pricing gets any better. The configuration I bought on last week's sale is $315 more now than what I paid for it. You can always save a quote just in case pricing continues to get worse.

Search around for CPP deals as they tend to be the best. Also, the deal that just ended (Grandslam or something) seems to have been better than the current deal, so I concur that you may want to wait until a better sale crops up.

Also, the new Intel Montevina platform comes out early June, so it's likely we'll see new Thinkpads (T62, R62, etc.). So if you don't need a laptop right now, you could also consider waiting even longer.

Thanks for your input guys. I like XP a lot more than Vista. But I was reading that MS is stopping its production and support of XP. So if I use this for a projected 4-5 years, how would that impact me?

Hmm... I guess I could wait till the launch of the new series. Would this mean that the existing T61 models would go on clearance if there is a new T62?

If you like XP over Vista, then stay with XP. I don't see it going away for awhile. Besides, by the time you may have to switch to a newer OS, Windows will have released a new one by then; rumored to be Windows 7.

right you are. xp actually will live on through mini pc's like the Asus EEEPC. They made this announcement not too long ago. So one way or another you will still be able to buy XP after the summer cutoff date. Support will last for years to come. Go with whatever OS you like. :D
