Just a fun poll to get majority opinion. My favorite would have to be the T series. I believe either the T, Z, or X series will have the highest votes.

    Enjoy! :D

IMHO, x-series has better build quality (i've used many x's and t's at ibm)

But the T is designed to have the better balance between portability and function.

You are entitled to your opinion, and I am not necessarily saying that I disagree. So far, the T60 series is leading by 5, with the X series as runner-up.

I have a T42p, but I'd love to have a Z61p (or 15" T60p). Since I don't travel, and power & screen are my top priorities, the Z61p is the best fit for my needs. I run a lot of aps at once and work with large spreadsheets, Brio, PowerPoint, etc as well as surf a lot.

X series is my favorite because of portability, but it doesn't have the graphics power I need for engineering and solid modeling, so I ended up getting the T60.

I like the Z series because of the multimedia features (widescreen, firewire, SD card reader). I can't hardly stand standard aspect ratio LCD's any more after getting used to widescreen. I don't really like the X series and Z61t because of the integrated graphics solutions. They should definitely have the X1400 available in the Z61t as i would of went with it over the Z61m then.

It's the next generation of wireless...promising faster speed, as opposed to the 802.11a/b/g. Yes, it would the wireless card in the machine.

    Momo26,

More information can be found here. That Wikipedia article will explain the differences between a, b, g, and n routers. It will pretty much explain wireless technology in general.

Cory is correct, it has been promised that the n routers will be considerably quicker and support a larger wireless range. Lenovo will intergrate these cards into all ThinkPads I'm sure and most likely their 3000 series aswell.

How am I supposed to choose? All thinkpads are great.

I'm torn between the T series and the X series.

T: the perfect balance between computer performance and portability
X: Genius. Extreme portability with good performance + reliability and ruggedness.

Well, consider T serious has a modular optical drive (can second as an additional battery) while the X series does not have an optical drive. Depending on your needs, the portability may be more important, or perhaps you'd benefit from having the drive.

Also, depending on how graphic intensive you'll be, X series is limited in that field. T series would be your choice if you played any games or worked with mid-to-high range graphics programs.

I think the hardest part of deciding is what components you want on a specific machine. Get a little too excited and you can easily see a ThinkPad reach close to $2500 ;\.

it all comes down to what you will be using your machine for. if you travel extensively, or portability is your number 1 priority, then of course the X series will be the way to go. Since I only travel with it once a week, I like the power of the Tp series more, hence my choice, and also, I like my notebook with thats not TOO thin, it makes me feel like I'm gonna break it, the T series is perfect size and thickness. and of course, I prefer the 4:3 matte screen to the widescreen glossy that I have used before.

It comes out to be $1,856.00 (without tax) - this includes a Lenovo nylon case. However, that does not include the following options:

    - 802.11n wireless adapter (Not yet available)
    - 9-cell battery (I think I changed my mind... kinda looks weird.)

Also, this is with the current RAM sale.

    I dislike the x-series screen.

The x-series wins all the awards; the T series do not

I have noticed, having worked with both, that the X series has better build quality.

No doubt the T-series is more mainstream, and thus is the flagship. But, the X-series is more innovative and it's the engineering marvel.

Wish i could get the t-series Flexview screen on the X61. Because of the screen issue, next time i will get the T.

Or update the T series with the advancements they have put in the Xs... I would have purchased the X60, but the display size annoyed me, I need it to draw architecture ... maybe as a second machine thought...

    X for me !
Been using an A20m , T40p and now X60s . ok, the X only since one day, so the new toy effect is obviously active too, but, seriously, the build quality is exceptional. Its the first thinkpad on which everything feels right, from the start.(ok, at least after putting that 1gig stick in).
powerful - modular - superportable. can work and crunch numbers like a desktop, when used with an external monitor, as long as you dont need 3d stuff / games.

If the X series had a discrete graphics unit, even something simple BUT discrete, it would definately take a chunk out of the other lines of ThinkPads (just as long as one has an external CD Drive).

No they're the same. The x just feels tighter, perhaps because it's half the size. Other who own both have noted the same comparison.

What i dislike about the X is the tiny alt key caused by the windows key they added to the x6-series, and the small screen. I'd like a 13.3" thinkpad next time if they had it

    I prefer the T series...
However, I have been considering a X60, but the tiny backspace key would murder me, so I'm going back to a T60, just going to wait to see how the widescreen rumor pans out, as I prefer the widescreen profile.
I have a T60 currently, that I just bought in fact, but I gave it to my wife, so now I'm back in the market.

i was sceptical about going back to 12" xga, after using sxga+ on a t40p for a long time (well, im mainly using an external monitor at home, so the laptop monitor is my 'second' screen, but still.).
BUT, so far, i love the X60s screen. In fact, in this dual-monitor-setup, it has proven more useful than the sxga+ on the t40p was, so far. Cause its so much easier to read when youre not directly in front of the thing (which is the case in my home setup). I realized im using it more than i did use the t40p one, in this config.
Of course, if you only have the laptop screen at all times, and dont mind working right in front of the thing at all times, the sxga+ thing wins.
I was also sceptical about the keyboard, btw. But, he, what can i say, this is the best thinkpad keyboard ive ever had. The smaller alt/etc buttons dont bother me at all.

The T is too big and heavy for today.
Plus the superior quality & engineering of the X outshines the T, in my opinion and experience.

I loved the X20 to death, despite the 1024x768 screen. X gets my vote.

I chose the X series because it is a true light and thin. The screen doesn't look small, letters are just like sale size of a 14.1 widescreen laptops! And a much smaller form factor and lighter than a 14.1 widescreen. I will choose T series if I need a good video card.
