I figured everyone here would be on suicide watch because the new ThinkPads are bound to be delayed.

There is help available.

Well, atleast the x120e should still be on time.
-
I'd probably be more upset if they had announced this a couple weeks ago. I am far too mentally adjusted to waiting now to get upset about a few more weeks of wait time.
-
Most people wouldn't notice a difference between SB and what's being offered now.
-
Of course they would. You get a better sticker. Plus Core i7 2720QM has a higher number than i7 720QM. Higher by 2000. It therefore must mean a massive performance increase. SSD? Nah can't be that fast. i7 2940XM + regular hard drive must be the best way to go.
(Oh and at least 8GB RAM too.)

Higher performance is always welcome; it makes gaming much better
Although it is quite clear that the quad core chips may finally get good battery life, so that's always welcome.
Not a big deal about the "delay", I doubt it's going to delay the new chips by much time but we simply don't know much right now. -
I don't game or even overclock. I'm a former SWS person for a vendor. I do buy the best I can buy but that's becoming more difficult for a variety of reasons including this one.

I'm just the opposite. The things I do with my laptop like Internet, music, office, some light photoshop don't really require a ton of processing power. A X60 would probably more than meet my needs. The last three notebooks I bought were either used or refurbed just because why pay full MSRP when a used PC is 99% as good at a substantial discount. Notebooks are a lot like cars these days. Once you open it, it takes a big hit in value.
I don't really foresee buying a brand new notebook again unless there's some feature I really want. The last new notebook I bought was my R60 in '06. The two notebooks I'm most smitten with now are the Asus EP121 because it's a slate with a good screen, but I'm just not sure if the no keyboard thing works for me. The other is the MacBook Air, mainly cause it's light and portable, and the SSD performance is supposed to be very good. The nice high resolutions is a bonus, but it's not a tablet and I'm not sure if I'm down with doing Mac again, though it's more than enough to meet my needs. Lastly, I've a X200t that's under accidental warranty for the next 2.5 years. It'd really have to be lusting for something for me to part ways with my X200t, but you never know. -
Do you buy used cars, too? I don't. I don't want someone's bio tard in my machine. eeeewwwww

Thats why you drive Veyron

This is the worst thing about technology. When something better, newer and faster comes out, you can't help but think that you "need" it.
-
Pretty true, however, it is quite difficult to me to find a really significant difference between the first Centrino-based ThinkPads and the current ones...
PS
Okay: Wi-Fi was only "B" then...

So true.
I wish I had a way to kill those urges to buy
-
I wish. I couldn't even afford the insurance. The pic is from one parked in front of a hotel. It's an amazing automobile to look at up close.

Buy this new drug, it uses --insert dangerous chemical here-- to supress your natural urge to buy the latest and greatest gadgets, gizmos, movies, and automobiles! Side effects include: urge to buy random infomercial products and extreme addiction to --insert dangerous chemical here--.
That said, I'm waiting for the x120e, which doesn't appear to have been delayed. -
Hehe, I almost always buy recently new/used machines. I buy the top of the line anything from last year or the year before. To me there's no point in buying today's top of the line one for $$$$ when you can buy last years for $$ but with 90% if not all of the features. There's also no point in buying today's "low end" for the same money as last years top model. Obviously this rule doesn't always apply but for say a car, if i was gonna buy a new BMW or Mercedes today, instead of spending $30,000 for a 2011 3 Series i can spend $25,000 for a 2007 5 Series that has more options anyways! Sure yes it has more miles and all that jazz, just means the first owner has already figured out and fixed all the problems

I'll cry out in despair. I was preparing to buy a new Extreme and Thinkpad. I for one am sorry I have to wait BUT I'd rather wait than have it discovered later.

What, no Sandy Bridge cry of despair?
