People keep talking about LG or Samsung Panels. What are they talking about?
-
-
They're talking about the screen (LCD panel) that they got in their laptop
-
Lenovo sources two manufacturers: 1) LG 2) Samsung.
LG Panel: superior
Samsung panel: inferior -
ok just kidding. it's not that cut and dry but yeah.
-
Yes, notebooks can have screens from different manufacturers even though they are the same model and resolution. There are the occasional good samsung screen and the occasional bad LG screen.
-
How can I tell which one I ordered?
-
You can't request one. It's luck of the draw. Download Everest or PC Wizard and install it after you get your laptop. It will show you the LCD manufacturer and then you can google the ID number
-
if you're happy with your screen why bother
-
Is the timing of the order or the version of the screen backlighting effect my chances?
-
I can think of a list of variables to be able to even come close getting the panel you want.
1) the duration it takes for your payment to go through
2) the market demand on a given day for the laptop
3) the failure rate of installation / lcd panel
4) number of panels ship on a given crate
skip a few...
100) in all the above, the marginal error and probability of inaccuracy in estimation
i can go on but i think everyone gets the point... so then it all comes down to.....
random chance

ugh. another screen debacle. annoying when the reviewed model has the sweet screen and they slip the cheapos in later. i guess sony is the only option if you really want to avoid the lcd lottery? don't care who manufacures the screen, but i sure hope mine (t400 ordered) looks better than the panels i have seen on the t61p. the ones i've seen are lousy. sigh.

No, the Lenovo factory is a three ring circus so depends if you got yours built by the bearded lady or the bicycle riding bears...at least i know monkeys wrote their website...
