What would be the biggest/fastest speed hard drive I could get for a resonable price for my T61? I do not want a SSD. I want the hard drive to be made by a very good reliable company that is highly recommended.

seagates had some issues in the desktop department lattely maybe avoid them. WD is generally very good quality.

    Here's a great drive... it's a Hitachi 320 GB 7200rpm 16MB cache SATA II drive for $59.99 after rebate: http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=10008894&ps=homain3

I purchased this same drive and used Vista Business's complete backup utility to put my entire HDD image to the new drive. It was a piece of cake and really pretty fast.

The new drive gets a 5.9 Vista score and is a very worthwhile upgrade, especialy for $60.

any of the 7200rpm 320gb versions from seagate, hitachi or western digital. I believe the fujitsu is slower.

Go for WD32000BEVT or WD5000BEVT. Hitachi 5K320 is silent.

Zaz, just a question. If you had an unlimited amount of money and you wanted a big SSD that performs better then a regular HD does, what would you get?

Samsung, intel, mtron are pretty solid.

Seen a few positive reports on the new gskill titans but I think the verdict is still out on those guys.

Oh and I've seen reports that lenovo t61 series and prior are capped at sata I speeds, so for some drives like intel, you won't get the entire read speed.

I suppose one of those Intel drives, which are supposed to be the best. I read somewhere the ThinkPads T60/R60/Z61 are limited to a 150MBs as a power saving measure. I'd need a new notebook to take advantage of it.

you should just get a normal HDD. you'll get large capacity at a low price.

wait a year or two and SSDs will be at todays HDD prices.

I have 1 thread. I am posting in other threads to get other responses. I know their is no "best" hard drive but what is amazing at this point in terms of HDD and not SSD.

you should just wait a few more days til Seagate releases their 500 gig 7200rpm drive. wait and see how it gets reviewed.

thats what i'm waiting for. if it gets reviewed poorly i'll get whatever 500 gig drive is reviewed best on newegg. i think its a WD drive.

standard laptop drives, dont expect to pay over $150. as far as SSDs, prices are 5 times as much for anything good.
