I've been on the IBM site recently and am wondering if anyone knows the secret behind their confusing prices. For example Thinkpad G series says "from 799 ibm web price" u click it, then when u go to configure it, u cant get it for under 1,099, no matter what. the same applies with thinkpad R series starting at 899. you cant get these notebbooks for these prices no matter what u do! [?] i emailed ibm on this, they failed to reply.

I'm guessing that you're looking at the education sight. Go to the G series or R series "product" page. There is a pull down that should say "show in stock". If it says "show all products", change it so that it says the former. Wait until it refreshes, then change it to the latter. In the end, you want it to say "show all products." Now there will be about 5 pages of notebooks, as opposed to the 1 or 2 pages of "selected models." If you're not looking at the education page and are looking at the express models, there's no way to get the advertised price.
