i can't find anything on their website that shows different from the T61 configurations that were optional, also the laptop looks exactly the same except a more blue "enter" button

Actually, the keyboards are the same again, Lenovo reverted to the T61 manufacturing proccesses for the new lines.

There are a whole lot of changes, too much to really describe, but here are some:

    Switchable graphics
    Centrino 2 Chipset (45nm cpus)
    DDR3 memory
    3G WWAN capable
    and others

I couldn't justify the price diffential especially since I nearly spent 3500 on a t61p. It'll be quite a while since I get rid of the t61p for something else.

Radeon 3650 is equal and higher than FX570M. Then there is the switchable graphics which will save quite a bit of power. i feel T500 keeps much cool than T61p in both normal and heavy usage.

Okay THX, I was asking myself this question since the T400 and T500 models have replaced the T61

If you bought enough stuff it added up to $3500, especially insurance, CPUs and new disks.

Yeah I got the replacement keyboard in lightning quick time. I was not even home from college yet, when I had been worried Lenovo might not have been able to deliver it before I went back to start next semester! They seem to be overnighting the keyboards.

Also they are shipping new laptops with the T61 keyboards. Seems they were doing this in limited bumbers back in October.

I never thought Lenovo would do make the switch and offer the free replacement to people who already bought the laptops, so I have to give them massive kudos. Would Apple have done that? Does that really need to be answered...

    Dont listen to martinmach.

    He is wrong.

The nVIDIA Quadro FX 570M in the Lenovo T61p is a much better graphics card. It is certified for CAD applications (e.g. AutoCad, Inventor, Solidstation, Solid Edge, ...) and DCC applications (e.g. Maya, 3DS Max, Lightwave 3D, ...) and offer a 12-bit precision for subpixel, full image-antialiasing, hardware accelerated antialiasing for dots and lines and additional drivers are for CAD and DCC optimized settings.

The ATI is a "medium" grade graphics card. The ATI would get beaten up by the nVIDIA by a longshot if you would compare them using CAD or AD Applications.

Dont believe me? You dont have to. Check out these links and compare them both for yourself.

    Graphics card in Lenovo T500:

    Graphics card in Lenovo T61p:
    http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-...0M.6938.0.html

The Graphics Card in the Lenovo T61p beats up the graphics card in the lenovo T500 in every benchmark by quite a lot.

Just because the ati is put in newer thinkpads doesnt make it better than the nVIDIA.

    3DMark 05in comparison

    ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650
    7358
    NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GS
    7700
    NVIDIA Quadro FX 570M
    7790

    Taken directly from the link.

Anyone telling you the ATI is better doesnt know what they are talking about.

    I'm guess helicopter delivery ? :D

    lol

T61 is like lifestyle. From the shoes that you wear, to the car that you drive, to the house that you live in, to what type of friends you have. Also, it's like state of mind ... like having a T61 states that you're cool no matter of the situation.

^ that did not help now did it

EDIT: you can't eat McDonallds every day if you have T61, but you can go to stake houses 3 times a week.

FX570m is also a midrange graphics card. It doesn't beat up the ati, just edges it out by a few hundred points

i must disagree with your argument. if u see closely in the above link, there are GDDR2 and GDDR3 versions of the same card. the GDDR2 is slower than the fx570m, but t500 uses the gddr3 version which is much faster than fx570m. do a search and u will find the answer. but quadro fx 570m can be over clocked, so far i could not overclock my 3650 without breaking the switchable graphics
