What is the usual update frequency of the thinkpads?

I am looking to buy the t61p (mainly because of the graphics card). Can we expect new models with more powerful cards already in spring 2008, or is it more realistic with late summer 2008?

i know that there are not any more powerful cards available at this moment (at least not in the form factor of the t series). But i guess ATI will soon launch their 3xxx series cards and Nvidia the 9xxx series.

    any thoughts?

Not in spring, the soonest (maybe) will be Q2 2008. The 9xxx series will be available in Desktops but will be a long way before getting into a laptop. IF you can wait, wait. If you need one, get it now.

Penryns are going to start appearing in notebooks sometime in January/February. So if Lenovo decides to include those, and I don't see why not, then they are probably gonna release the t62 sometime in the springtime.

You realize that Q2 consists of 2 1/3 months of spring, so you're contradicting yourself. Q2 and spring are the same thing...

I meant the middle and later of Q2, not the beginning.

Still tho, the end of Q2 is still spring. Only the last 10 days of Q2 is summer.

Anyway, I'm just messing with you, sorry for being so technical.

Penryn is just a refresh, and it should fit in the motherboards in the Thinkpads now. So there won't be any new Series until Montevina.

Montevina is a platform refresh like Santa Rosa. So obviously, we'll see a series refresh by then.

On the other hand, the new Penryn processors coming out next month will be a drop-in upgrade with the current Santa Rosa platform. As a result, no changes to the platform will be needed, and there will be no new series. (Think Yonah to Merom)
