When computer is in sleep, why does pulling USB cord out power it back up? Does anyone else have this issue? Thanks

Also, if lid is closed and in sleep mode, and you click a mouse button by accident, it wakes up.
-
how would you end up clicking the mouse if lid is closed? unless ure talking about an external...im about to try it out with an external right now
-
just tried it and clicking an external mouse powered by usb takes it out of sleep mode too....even though the light on the mouse is off....hmmm
looks like this is still an USB issue since external mouse is plugged in via usb -
this sucks...because when you're in a hurry and you put ure notebook to sleep...and if you have peripherals plugged in..and you unplug it AFTER sleep...your notebook could turn on and stay on during transport in a bag...and that's definitely not good for the computer due to overheating issues and HD damage

There is an easy way to disable this "feature." Go to device manager, and go to the properties of the device that troubles you. Go to the power management tab. Uncheck the "allow device to wake computer." Since the labels of the drivers is very confusing I just try to find the closest matches in the right category then disable them all. They all are probably the same peripheral anyways, just the drivers are for different ports.

That could work, if you can find all the interfaces. That is a programmatic interface.

it does work. my usb mouse doesn't do that to me anymore. Oh yeah, and restart; I thought it didn't work at first because my computer wouldn't even go to sleep before restarting.

While the laptop does wake up after a mouse click, it should go back to sleep based on the current timeout setting.
For example, I have my T61 set to sleep after 5 minutes of idle time. If I shut the lid, let it sleep, then pull the usb mouse out of the usb port , it wakes up. BUT it goes back to sleep after 5 minutes.
If you know you are going to travel with the laptop the best thing to do is, unplug all peripherals, then put the laptop to sleep.
This leads me to another question though. Under most of the power settings, the sleep timeout is only a few minutes less than the hibernate value. Does this mean, that the laptop sleeps first, then goes into hibernate?
What is the best mode for travel, hibernate or sleep?
thanks,
Jeff
