I purchased a refurb'd T61p and it is on track to be delivered to me tomorrow. My account still has yet to be charged for this purchase. It may be that they don't charge you until you have signed off on the machine with UPS, but there isn't even a hold on the funds appearing in my account.

    Is this normal?

Lenovo charged my account once i passed their credit verification. lenovo has a manual credit verification process and it takes 24 hours or so. they are looking for address matches, etc in their credit verification process.

Well, my machine shipped within two days of ordering it, so I agree it could have been that they charged the card when it shipped and just put a hold on it while it was building.

I used my check card, not a credit card. I understand there is still verification that is done with a check card, I don't feel it should have taken very long. My shipping and billing address are the same.

This is very odd. Any suggestions on what I should do? I figure I'll give it til when I actually have the machine in my hands to contact them about it. I think the "hey, it's their fault! Free laptop for me!" response would backfire pretty quickly as I'd imagine it would be much like your bank mistakenly depositing funds into your account that aren't yours. You don't say anything, you're accountable for theft.

Definitely don't want any of that.

Well, it is definitely NOT normal that they shipped the computer without taking the funds out of your checking account. Sometimes though, my online banking will not show all the money that has been held or taken out of my account right away. Sometimes i have a two day delay or so especially if I buy something over the weekend, etc.

That's what makes this even more odd. I use Wells Fargo and they are usually very quick to show pending funds. In fact, almost immediately. Since this is a larger purchase I would accept there is room for some delay, but I placed this order exactly a week ago.

I have to wonder if the fact that I was never sent an order confirmation has anything to do with this. I asked why I never got it and the best response I got was that there may have been an error.

    You think?

No, I've received my laptop before the charge showed up before. I wouldn't worry about it so much. It'll be there soon enough ?? :p

If it never shows up then great, but I'm positive it'll be there in the next couple days.

I'm pretty sure they want their money, so I'm sure you're right. It's just very odd and I've never had anything I ordered processed in this way before. I just thought I'd make a post and see if anyone had the same thing happen and I got my answer.

Sitting on funds that could be gone at any moment sucks though. I don't write as few checks as possible so that I don't have to balance too much. Thanks for throwing a wrench in my lazy financing Lenovo . . .
