I'm close to getting a T-500, but what I really want is a W-500 that includes the self profiling setup of the W-700 for photographers....a compact version, minus the included tablet would be killer. I am looking for the best possible sceen combined with practicable battery life = probably not an LED.

They could make serious inroads on Apples' lock in this field. The W-700 is just too big, you don't really need your HD's in a RAID, and 4-8GB of RAM is the performance sweet spot for Photoshop/Lightroom.

Ya, all of us would like better screen options. The self calibrating is probably not going to come along on the other series, but better screens is a plus and we can just calibrate ourselves.

So, not to belabor it, but can anyone tell me if announcements in April, shipping in August (as in 2008) is pretty much the cycle?

I doubt you will see any new Thinkpads or the modifications you are suggestion until next year, when Calpella comes out. Why don't you want LED, it's better than CCFL backlit screens in all aspects.

I have heard of no new updates, not even announcements, it will likely be end of year before a major refresh of the line is done. Lenovo has time, businesses aren't buying much right now so they have no incentive to rush out to try and capture new sales with updated models.

You won't have buyers remorse if you buy something now.

Lenovo already had the best screen with the FlexView. They chose to stop using it. I don't really see it making a comeback, but who knows.

If you want a really good screen, pick up a used 15" T60 with SXGA+ or UXGA resolution. The performance drop-off isn't that much, but the screen can't be beat. Plus it'll probably cost less too.

Thanks much for the replies, guys - pretty much what I expected in terms of options currently for screens, old and new.
Still, with the economy the way it is, I agree that new models won't punch sales up for Lenovo....

But, as a Good American, I can do my part! Guess I'll grab a T-500 on the next big sale event.
