Obviously I'm just looking for an opinion on whether or not the difference is substantial enough (battery life / performance / etc.)

    Thanks,
    Chris

There is a difference in battery life and performance compared to the T7700.

Penryn supply is very tight because of delays due to CPU defects in some calculation unit or something, i wouldnt expect to get my hands on it before end of February...and why not a T9500? now THATS a beast

You'll only really notice a performance increase when doing CPU intensive applications or any applications requiring SSE 4 .. The performance gains are ~ 2-10%, and battery life increases marginally, I think Anatech has an article detailing the performance of the T9300, not worth the damn wait in my opinion, I've been waiting for Lenovo to adopt Penryn, but it's taking forever.

In my opinion, unless you're going to be rendering movies or huge documents it's not worth the wait.
