Hi - I am holding out to buy any Thinkpads until a HDMI port is included.

Anyone know of Lenovo's decision to come out with a revised Thinkpad line or any newer models coming out.

I know the SL series has what I want, HDMI plus track point, but the build quality is horrible.

    Thanks

I don't know for sure, but I have a hunch that next year they will consider using HDMI over DisplayPort. I can say I know you will not see anything anytime soon (in the next six months) but with the ThinkPad line refresh beginning of next year I would be surprised if they continue to stick with DisplayPort.

That's a long time to wait if you need something now though.

I don't think Thinkpads will have HDMI, as DisplayPort will get wider use (and DP is royalty-free). The next Intel platform should have better support for DP, though (including audio over DP, probably), which can be converted to HDMI through a small, simple converter cable.

The current Intel platform, which is called Montevina, doesn't have a problem with the audio support over the DisplayPort. It's Lenovo that didn't implement a fully functional DisplayPort for reasons they have failed to explain so far.

Dell business/workstation notebooks do support both video and audio with a DisplayPort-to-HDMI cable/adapter, which is something that even the people from the long thread on the Lenovo forum, who are still waiting for a proper answer rather than the BS they got, know.

    Just an example if needed...
