I don't understand why this is so difficult. I bought a T61 today From CDW.com. It arrives tomorrow. I have a tracking number and all. It's not EXACTLY the spec I wanted. So I ordered more RAM to put in it. Whats the big deal? Why does everyone have to wait so long?

 

because we decided to order directly from the manufacturer. i thought it couldnt make it this much longer, i wanted to get a t61 and i ordered it before it was on CDW ect. also the prices were cheaper on direct site at the time... and i got 4 years of computrace along with 1 year of TPprotection

That's funny! I wish I knew the UPS flight number my package is on. Then we could use a real-time flight tracker and watch it cross the ocean.

 

I was going to be posting something about that in which today's xkcd directly mirrors what I've been doing for a past few hours... But somebody else got to it and now I change my mind. It must be with all the geeks in here...
BTW, I've BEEN TRACKING all the flights on flightaware.com just for kicks and based on my T61 tracking data, it left ICN on 6/24/07 @ 1:53AM their time. Since I assume the packages must go through Anchorage for refueling/maybe load/unloading and exports out of Lenovo's factory in Shenzhen, China I think all go through HKG (hong kong airport) to be loaded onto UPS's cargo flights plus the fact that I checked the Hong Kong airport's website (they publicly show the Cargo departure flights for some reason), there's a UPS flight #61 that goes HKG (Hong Kong)->ICN (Seoul, South Korea)->ANC (Anchorage, Alaska)->SDF (Louisville, Kentucky). So based on my estimates, my T61 is current in the air on this flight:

that's landing @ 1:09AM EDT. I *SURELY* hope it passes through their network fast enough/processed efficiently enough that it makes their cutoff so it gets to my local UPS location tomorrow (6/27-Hopefully they can make their promise and DELIVER 1 DAY EARLY which i've seen happen with UPS before.)

unclewai, my laptop was in chek lap kok,HK from 6/21 till 6/25 then it suddenly said "out for delivery" just this morning 6/26 so dont lose hope...

in fact if you have read any of my other posts UPS couldnt tell me where it was yesterday... aparently customer support gets the same tracking info that we do...

i cant wait for it to get here

Your notebook is on the plane flying here . The tracking hasn't updated because the plane ride is 12-16 hours long, depending on whether you are on how close you are to the Pacific Ocean. It will be delivered the next day if you have Express shipping.

BTW, Chek Lap Kok is where the Hong Kong International Airport is.

Express is the faster of the two shipping options.

I think all the T60's are being shipped out from Shenzhen, China while the T61s are being shipped out from Kowloon Bay. I don't think one plant is better than the other though.

 

My two T61s shipped from Shenzhen.

 

I chose 'ground' shipping (like they're really going to ship via ground based methods across the Pacific Ocean), and got upgraded to Express. It's now out for delivery and WILL be delivered this morning!!!

Ordered an R61 w/t WXGA+, 2.0GHz 4MB cache, NVIDIA Discrete, 100GB 7200RPM, Bluetooth, 7Cell, Smartcard Reader (PC Card version, not built-in) 28 Sep (Friday night so I guess you can't really count the weekend) finally shipped 13 Oct. Got expedited shipping though so I won't see it until 19 Oct, It probably doesn't help either that I live in Nebraska.
