I'm trying to find the best way to order a thinkpad. Is ordering from lenovo the best and cheapest option? Lenovo doesn't sell any of their laptop at local stores here so I have to purchase one online. I've found Amazon to be the cheapest, but no options at all. Also, I'm looking to buy new not used.

I think direct is the best way to get what you want at a great price. I have ordered two laptops direct and two monitors from the outlet and am very happy with the service and price.

I'm waiting till next year, but I'm trying to figure out my battle plan now. :D I know my next notebook is probably going to be a t410s with sandy bridge if not a similar model. So my plan is to wait till Lenovo offers a newer model after the one I want, and wait till Lenovo releases coupons to clear inventory. Tell me if my plan isn't sound.

How long is the wait going to be? :(

Q1 of next year at some point.

I ordered both my X301, and T61 direct via. the Lenovo website (ordered both brand new to my specs.).

I'm from the USA as well.

So if I get you right, you're going to wait until the next-next-generation T4x0s model comes out, to buy the next-generation (Sandy Bridge) T4x0s. That'll probably be about a year and a half from now, seeing as Intel releases its new platform at the beginning of each calendar year, during which time Lenovo also refreshes the Thinkpads.

I too ordered my Thinkpad from the Lenovo US site, when there was a good coupon deal.

I bought mine at Buy.com, because it was a pretty good deal. New X200 (C2D/1GB/160GB/3 yr warranty/6 cell) for $600 + tax.

Yeah that was the plan :( . I think the wait would be too long if its in a year and a half.

Are there any surprise coupons throughout the year? What's the largest sale Lenovo has offered. I heard they were giving fully loaded x301 for $1300 once.

Yes, Lenovo towards the end of the X301 life cycle, was practically GIVING the X301 away the last month or so. I forgot exactly how much the final USD cost was, but it was defiantly more than half off the original cost.

The also have (every now and then) 25% off T series notebooks, 20% off X, etc. Just keep looking around for coupons, they come and go.

Bought my X61T from a craigslist seller. Bought my first X200T from eBay. Traded it to a friend for my second X200T... which he got on eBay. So eBay, really. Honestly, eBay's just really convenient for me since I do a lot of business on eBay already.
