So the y580 has been out for a while but i cannot find any official reviews. Just user reviews. Whats taking so long for official users from sites to post? Can anyone shed some light.

Here's a fairly thorough review: Lenovo IdeaPad Y580 Review

At least build-wise and all that, but gaming benchmarks and the like for a 660M are easy enough to find elsewhere.

Lenovo hasn't sent out review units of this model. So basically any media outlet that wants to review it has to go buy it. That's why you mostly have to rely on consumer reviews right now. Lenovo did send out Y480 review units so you can find a ton of reviews on that. However, the Y580 and Y480 are very different and you really can't base a buying decision for the Y580 on a Y480 review.

Why are they not sending review units? Do you know when they will?

Maybe because they are aware of the HDD heat problem and don't want to get bad marks because of that...

But that's just one of thousand possibilities why they don't want to send out review units ;)

    a few quantum leaps here

they have not send out review units -> they don't want to send them-> they have HDD problem to hide

In reality, I havn't seen any official reviews of the new IBY based lenovo products except for the X230.

Not all companies send out review units of every product they have. They have budgets related to how much they can spend coordinating reviews. Lenovo actually does a better job than most companies getting their products in the hands of the press, I'm not sure if the Y580 will be one they do since the ThinkPads tend to get more attention.
