Is it bad to go around w/o the ultrabay and w/o a bezel put in there? Sometimes when travelling, I wouldn't mind dropping a little weight.

some searching of the lenovo site reveals that the part number for what they call the "travel cover" (travely bezel to us, apparently) is 13N5108, so I think you can just call them up and order one. Worth a shot at least.

awmoore tracked down the price and found that it'll run you about $8.50 for the piece of plastic and about 13.50 for shipping!

So did anyone find a solution?
Are you guys still lugging your DVD drive bc you can't find a travel cover or are you using it without anything within the bay?

I've used these plastic covers for years on my various ThinkPads and they are very worthwhile. By removing the drive or whatever is in your ultrabay, you are saving weight, and the cover protects the contacts inside. A must as far as I'm concerned. Also by ordering from Lenovo you get the exact part that fits properly and does not come loose. To find them simply go to the support section of the Lenovo site, enter in the model type of your machine and click on "system service parts". Look through that list and they are called either "travel bezel" or "travel cover". I usually wait to order until I have something else I need then shipping is of no concern.

    Cheers...

All that to save 4½ oz?
Why not then pull the battery and power the laptop with your restless leg syndrome?

Of course, a response like that could be why some customers haven't returned to the shop. ;-)

Never leave an open bay, and use the little plastic doo-dads for empty pcmcia
slots--not just because of dirt and moisture; most laptops don't cool properly without them.

It is a precision part--even if it is made of plastic--and must be rigid enough for the drive release/ejector to function without it getting cockeyed and jamming. That is most of the price rather than the material the bezel/cover is made of. Something cheaper will leave you using a credit card to extract it when you need the bay. Remember to eject it once in a while to keep it free; dust will wedge it in there quicker than you expect (do that with the OD and battery too.)

PS: When OLED become mainstream, a carbon fiber framed laptop with a 14" high resolution screen will weigh roughly 2lbs including battery. Most of the actual weight will be in the heat sink and battery. Pretty cool; don't you think?
