I'm thinking about pulling the trigger on ordering an X220, but would like to see one in person first.

Does anyone know any places I could see one on display? I'm in the Encino/Sherman Oaks area of Los Angeles. Zip 91316.

    Thanks!

Thanks TobaccoMan. Though, might not be the most accessible choice for a non-student & someone not familiar with the campus.. But if it's my only choice... ?

Could someone confirm they have them on display there? Or offer any other location to see one? I'm all ready to buy, just need to check it out in person first since I'll be living with it for many years to come.

    Thanks

Dealer Locator | Lenovo Partner Network

search using this, and see if any of the results have a retail store. See if their websites say anything. Just from the first 2 results I saw, they don't usually have retail stores, they seem to be IT services companies.

It is a real shame that Thinkpads are almost impossible to find in-store. Most consumers want to see their laptop before buying, so they go to Best Buy or Staples or wherever, they only see consumer brand laptops, and the best of those are almost always Macbook Pros. So many consumers get the idea that PCs are low end and low quality and Macbook Pros are the highest quality laptops you can buy. Such a shame, since you can get an amazing array of features in Thinkpads and other corporate laptops that Macbook Pros simply don't have.

It's exactly the same in Europe, unfortunately. I spent hours trying to find a store that carries newer ThinkPads, just to make sure that it's still a choice for me. After failing miserably I just ordered one, knowing how sturdy is my good old T42.

You won't find higher end Latitudes or HP EliteBooks either. Sony Z series is much easier to find.

I've seen the Z at least once in stores, but no 1080p screen. I want to see if that screen is usable at that resolution.

The UCLA store only has the X201 right now. And it didn't seem to be functioning, the last time I went around.

Thanks, the pics are at least another data point on size.

But still can't assess that "in-person feel" and overall impression including aesthetics. My last notebook was a Sony Vaio TX-850. Loved the portability and it was sleek looking too. If I wasn't so surrounded by colleagues with MacAir's and other classy looking devices I swear this would be easier :)

I've called several different places today from the Lenova dealer locator and skipped dozens more that were consultants. I simply can't find any sign of a Lenova X220 being on display in Los Angeles. Crazy. I hate the idea of ordering one sight-unseen especially as it's my own $$!

For now I guess I will delay, until either 1) I somehow manage to see one in person, 2) a Lenova competitor starts selling a notebook with similar specs which is more accessible, or 3) I finally get worn out and just pull the trigger and take my chances on the X220 :).

I was told UCLA store will have them in stock soon if this is of any help

As for that X201 they have on display, you have to power it on... ;)

I decided to take a chance and pull the trigger sight-unseen. Found what seems like a good deal (?) via a business association + coupons:

I7 2620 CPU, Win7 Pro, 4 GB RAM, Premium display, fingerprint reader, HD camera, 320gb 7200rpm HD, Bluetooth, Intel 6205 wireless, case sleeve, and display-link-to-dvi connector for $1144 before tax.

    Thanks for the responses!

I think you made a great choice. I've had six Thinkpads to date (A22P, X31, T40, T42, T400, W500) and they've all been incredible. The build quality is second to none, and I love the sleek black aesthetics.

I just ordered a similar one, albeit with lower specs, and I can't wait. IMO it would have been great if there was a 1440x900 IPS display (I got the IPS) available, but other than that, I think it's perfect.
