Where did Lenovo put the product key for MS Office?

A friend of mine just recently got a Lenovo Thinkpad R61i, and it has Microsoft Office installed. The problem is, it needs to be activated with the Product Key. Lenovo sent no CD or packaging with the product key on it; the program came pre-installed.

I'm sure someone else has been in this exact same situation.

Please share where you got the Product Key. Did you call Lenovo, Microsoft or something?

Please help!

 

Maybe it was a 30 or 60 day trial edition?

 

Did he order MS Office with the computer? I'm guessing it'd probably be some sort of physical certificate of authenticity that came inside the box.

But most of the time, they just come pre-loaded as a demo. As a result, you'd need to go out and purchase a copy, then input the serial key.

 

It most likely is a 60-day trial. That's what my copy was.

If you didn't select the option to purchase a copy when configuring the notebook, you won't have a key.

Same situation if he bought it in-store.

 

Its a trail version. Its better that she purchase the suite through retail anyway.

 

She bought it (the laptop) off of Newegg.com, and I'm pretty sure it's not a trial version.

However, on the desktop, there is an icon that says 60 day trial, but if you click on it, it gives you the option of getting a free trial key, or of inputing a licensed key. The program doesn't act like any trial version I've seen - it doesn't say trial version when you start it up...

She can't find it (the product key) in the packaging or anything.

Do you usually get a CD if you have the full version?

 

When I purchased my T61 w/ Office 2007 SBE, Lenovo sent me a disc with a product key on the packaging. I used that key to activate the pre-installed trial version.

 

I don't think ANY of the TopSellers (available from Resellers) have MS Office included other than the trial version. Pretty sure this is a CTO option only. I ordered Office Pro with my T61p and it came with a separate OEM disk and key. The trial version was installed on the hard drive.

As LaptopGuru said, ordering a copy of 2007 is probably a CTO option only.

 

Its cheaper to order it retail than through lenovo

 

I compared prices at the time and Lenovo was cheaper. I guess it depends on where you look and what you're buying (retail vs OEM or grey market).

I still think the best deal, depending on what you need, is the home and student version. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint for $129 is not bad...

 

The problem with going OEM is you will not get suport through Lenovo or Micrsoft while with retail you can at least get it through Microsoft.

 

Thanks a bunch - I hate to break the bad news to my friend, and I think they're going to contact the person who ordered it for them, and ask specifically if a licensed version was paid for.

I have to agree that it has the looks of a trial version, considering that she's not sure it's a full version.
