I have just removed the system board of an A31p to repair a dry solder joint and while putting it back together I have forgotten where the part 26P9782 goes.

Does anyone have any ideas before it is discarded ??? :D

Go to the Lenovo website, and go to the support section and lookup your laptop. In there you should find a service manual, and if you do a search, you should be able to find out what that part is, and where on various blowup pictures it goes.

I have had a look but the part is not shown in the drawings of the hardware manual. Some sites can sell me the part but it has not got a good description.

Guess this will teach me to take things apart without taking photos !!

Can you post a picture of it. I've got an A30P, so theres a good possibility the part is somewhere in my machine.

I just had the same part drop out me! It's not in any of the drawings and it's described most unhelpfully as "MISC PART" in the FRU description. So what is it? After a freakin' hour of inspecting the laptop I figured it out... It's a little bit of bracing where the security cable attaches (you know, when the laptop is at a school or the like and it's cabled to the desktop). It goes in upper-left corner of the case by the hinge. Directly behind the hole where the security cable would go, naturally. It's not a critical part (unless you need to cable it).

    And your point is what?

Somebody out there will google this same stupid FRU # (like I did) because it's not in the service manual and they'll find this thread with a helpful comment explaining where the part goes. What's the harm in that?

I've had the same problem with my father's ThinkPad A30 and found out what it was and where it belongs:

It's a piece of metal for the Kensington lock and it's located in the left upper corner (near the LCD screen). So, not a quite important part, but necessary

So, if someone has the same problem, now you know where it has to go. :)

You guys are White Hot! I've got an A30 all over the bench and the manual open, no joy. So google the part number and this thread shows up at number 3. Perfect.

    thx, pjr

Perfect example of why I've never had a problem with late posts.

I just subscribed to this forum to say thanks, I have been checking the FRU diagrams for 30 minutes without any success.

Finally I googled 26P9782 (by the way, it's made in Japan), and this thread is N°1 in google now. I owe you my peace of mind.

God bless you, google, and serial numbers.
