Any suggestions as to where to buy the X200? I've looked through eBay, amazon, tigersdirect, lenovo outlet and was surprised by the high price despite being a discontinued model. Also, is there an easy way to find out whether the system is a LED or CCFL display? I would like to keep the option of upgrading the screen to AFFS in the future. Thanks.

you have to look at the parts list of the x200 to know whether it is a led or ccfl lcd version.
Zaz was trying to sell his x200 with the affs mod already done, maybe just get it off him, then you can be both happy for a week, till you need your next pet project or thinkpad. -
Yes, I do. I might just keep too. I've not decided yet. It's got some heat issues. I'm trying to get it fixed with some Lenovo help cause I don't want to sell it to someone broken, but I can't say when exactly when that'll be. There's this on eBay. With 8% bing you're looking at about $650. It's still under warranty, which gives you a few months to check it out to see if it's OK. It's got a stuck pixel, but you're going to replace the screen anyway.

650 dollars...... darn that is cheap.

If you are buying from a seller (such as an eBayer) who already has opened/used the laptop, you can ask the person to check for LED vs CCFL by going through:
Device Manager --> Monitor --> Properties --> Details Tab --> Change the Property to Hardware Ids to view the values.
CCFL = LEN4010
LED = LEN4011 -

I've been searching ebay these past couple days and notice many "New-in-Box", factory-sealed, etc products. I'm looking for a new X200, but I think these are all refurbished. Is there an easy way to find whether the product is refurbished from the Model and serial number?
For example, one seller is selling a NIB with 3 year warranty. The Model number is 7459-RW6 and when I looked it up on lenovo, it gave me the following:
Original description: Based on 7459-69U: P8400(2.26GHz), 4GB RAM, 160GB 7200rpm HD, 12.1in 1280x800 LCD, Intel 4500MHD, Intel 802.11agn wireless, WWAN upgradeable, 1Gb Ethernet, Secure chip, Camera, 6c Li-Ion, WinVista Business 32
The fact that is its "based" on the 7459-69U sounds fishy and makes it sound refurbished. But if the laptop carries a 3 year warranty what do you think? -
Lenovo uses the term "based on" to mean that the model is a slightly customized from another model (at the request of a large customer, or for a specific market). It is not fishy, and it does not mean refurbished.

to add to what ckx said, see my post here: http://forum.notebookreview.com/len...thinkpad-based-another-model.html#post5619797

Thank you ckx and erik for the information. I bought the X200 off ebay and the seller told me afterward that it was just part of large custom order via Lenovo that was canceled before it got shipped! It was strange that he mentioned it no longer met retail standards for Lenovo and thus it is sold via various channels??? I don't think that matters as according to the seller it is a New-In-Box with 3 year on-site warranty. So I'm very happy with my purchase and can't wait for my first thinkpad!
And if luck is with me, the 7459-69U "Based" X200 uses the CCFL (seller claims since its a custom order, he couldn't find the serial number on the box but it maybe have a sticker on the laptop itself. )

there's a long, long explanation to how the program works but the seller was correct in what he said about the system's background. i can't say whether it's truly new-in-box though as that can only be determined once it's in your hands.
