Hi, i'm a new user here, i joined because whenever i searched thinkpad related topics, this part of the website often came up with topics that were relevant to what i was interested in or troubles i was having.

It's 2009 i know, but i've found picking up used ThinkPads for me is the way to go. I found a T43 with very good specs that i've been using for a few months now no problems. However i was thinking of getting more of a desktop replacement that i would have the power to tackle most applications with ease and speed. From the start i had my search narrowed to a Z61p, T61, T61p, or a new T400, but after discovering the Z61p was awkwardly thick and that the T61 did not have the GPU i wanted, and that Lenovo had really watered down the quality with the T400 (thin plastics, keyboard flex) i am really looking at a T61p. After researching i now know most the of specs i will want. Does anyone know where to find a T61p, eBay has 20+ at the moment but is there any other site or place? Better yet, is anyone selling a T61p on here?
    Thanks :)

I forgot to mention i'm in canada, i tried Lenovo's Canada outlet but sadly there are actually no notebooks at all on that site. I may just buy one off eBay, i found a few under 900. Well i'll keep looking around.

I've already got a good idea of what i want. I want a T7700 C2D if i can and on eBay most go for under 1000, i'm hearing excellent things about the 15.4" in some gaming. I'm glad that the 15.4" only came with the 570M, less FRU's to look up. I'll probably go with a WSXGA screen because i've heard that the WUXGA have a very high resolution but poor quality.

All i know is that first game i'll be testing out will be GTA IV, after more DirectX optimized drivers installed of course. I can't find anything about GTA IV on the 15.4" T61p so i want to be the first to give some feedback and a benchmark for other T61p users. On paper it looks like it will run it fairly smoothly. Especially if i go with a 2.4GHz C2D.

If you want a gaming machine I very much recommend you go with a different model. There is definitly a reduction in FPS due to the QuatroFX design. Also the high resolution means that native resolution gaming can be something of a struggle. (Coming from the 2.5Ghz model).

Don't forget that the T61p is discontinued so anyone looking at one probably already knows what they can do.

AuroraAlpha, of course it is almost impossible to play games like Crysis or F.E.A.R on the T61p's native res.. i'm not really talking about gaming, i'm perfectly comfortable playing GTA 4 on 1024*768. The FX 570M Quadro is almost exactly the same as the 8600M GT and more. The Quadro's integer based graphics optimization is something the 8600M GT doesn't have, but if i can get 8600M GT drivers and edit the .inf file i can use them when gaming, i've heard using the proper drivers the 570M in the T61p can perform quite well.
