    Hello,

I recall there was plenty information about good memory deals when I bought my T61 last year.

Now I am going to buy a T500 and hope to find similar deals for PC3-8500 DDR3 SDRAM 1067MHz. It is surprising to me that I found nothing after a few searches in this website. Am I missing something?

    Thanks for any information!

    Cheers!

I think the primary reason for the lack of posts about deals on DDR3 is that there really aren't any yet. The price of just ordering the memory from Lenovo is not much different than from Newegg, plus you get the benefits of the warranty.

For example on a T500 through CPP, going from 1GB to 3GB RAM (essentially the cost of a single 2GB DDR3 stick) is $93.50 -- prices at Newegg range from ~$83 to $113. When I ordered my T400, the $83 option didn't exist and it was cheaper by $20 to buy from Lenovo; even today I'd still pay the extra $10 to know that if I should have a problem I won't have to play the "is it the 3rd party memory or is it the laptop" game.

In a few months I'm sure the story will be different and DDR3 will be significantly cheaper from third party sources.

Get 2G 1dim memory, and left one slot for next year upgrade. Best choice for both xp and vista system.
