We just got the the new ThinkPad X61 laptop. It comes with Vista Home Basic. I also order anther additional 60GB hard drive to run older XP programs that would not run in Vista.

There is no audio drivers. The control panel / sound / audio - has not audio device.
In the device manager both the Audio Device on High Definition Audio Bus drive and Modem Device on High Definition Audio Bus are not installed and configured correctly.

I went to Thinkpad X61 Drivers & software
    http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-67971.
and download the audio drivers 7ka112ww.exe

When I tried to install, it looks for:
SoundMax - the HDA audio Bus driver is required and not found.

I look & google everywhere and unable to find the right driver.

Thank you advance for your help.

From my guide (see my sig):

    Download these:

    Audio Driver
    Modem Driver
Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) High Definition Audio: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=MIGR-65456

PROPER WAY TO INSTALL THE AUDIO & MODEM DRIVERS:
    1. Extract the Audio Driver file you downloaded.
    2. Extract the Modem Driver file you downloaded.
    3. Install the Universal Audio Architecture (UAA).
    4. Once finished, it will prompt you saying new hardware is found.
    5. Choose option "No, not this time".
    6. Choose "Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)".
    7. Choose "Search for the best driver in these locations".
    8. Uncheck all but "Include this location in the search:".
    9. Browse for "c:\drivers\win\audio\smaxwdm\w2k_xp".
    10. After installation, it will prompt you for the modem driver.
    11. Repeat steps 3-6.
    12. Browse for "c:\drivers\hdamodem\win2kxp".
    13. Hit finish.
