I know some of you have this drive, and I'm wondering where I can buy it? It seems to be OEM only and its not sold anywhere? I can't even find it on ebay
-
Hmm, it's even out of stock at Newegg. Newegg.com - Intel 310 Series (Soda Creek) SSDMAEMC080G2C1 mSATA 80GB mSATA (mini PCIe form factor) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - SSD
The only thing I can suggest is keep looking, and keep an eye on Newegg, they may get it back in stock. I haven't heard of it being discontinued, or there being a shortage of these though.
Edit: I just noticed that Newegg says "ETA 5/17/2011". So it should be back in stock in 5 days according to them. -

I'll sell mine for $600.
-
I was just about to post about this until I saw this thread. I can't find it anywhere online, including NewEgg.
-
Might sound funny, but maybe you could try ordering from Europe? Due to the lack of availability of the new Lenovo models, plenty Intel 310 SSD's are available over here.
computerpirates: 1 werkdag levertijd (next day delivery) -
I bought mine from here a week or two ago. They have 10 in stock apparently.
-
Backordered already...
-
I just did auto notify on Newegg. Don't need it quite yet, since I got a 160gb 320, so I'll probably wait till I run out of space or the price drops, whichever comes first
-
Can someone tell me their experience with the these.
1. Was it easy to migrate the operating system (I assume a fresh install works.)?
2. How about boot times and and getting Lenovo EE to work? I'm guessing those bogus 8 second boot times Lenovo showed off at CES are not happening. But is 15 sec possible?
3. How much space are you left with after you install the OS? Is it hard to move the documents and cache folders to the HDD? I assume you use reg-edit.
4. As a novice, how hard is it to remove the keyboard and install the SSD. I've never done more than add memory... -
1. Clean install works very well; a restore from the Lenovo Recovery media you create should too. It's easiest if you remove your hard drive, install to the SSD, and then put your hard drive back in when all is done.
2. Boot times are very reasonable. My buddy timed mine at 12 seconds to Ctrl-Alt-Del, and then another 4-5 seconds to desktop (which includes loading any system tray apps I have like MS Security Essentials).
3. With Windows 7, Office 2010, Firefox, and a few other apps, I have 42-44GB free on my 80GB SSD (I'm not next to my T420 so I can't give an exact). Moving folders to the hard drive involves very little if any registry editing: the hardest one for me was probably using about:config in Firefox to move my Profile and Cache folders. Most other changes can be done from editing different settings made available in Windows without touching REGEDIT.
4. If you are patient, go easy and follow the Hardware Maintenance manual, you'll be fine. -
Thanks. It certainly is a big savings to install yourself over what Lenovo charges for the mSSD. And some models like the E420s don't even have it as an option yet.
It sounds like for my usage pattern I might be able to get away with 40 or 60 GB. Much of what I do for work is either web or Citrix based. Totally off topic, but I wish their was a way to suspend while keeping wifi connected. That way I would not have to re-connect citrix so often. -
Ships from the Illinois warehouse. I just ordered one, and the stock went down to 9, so that chart seems to be legitimate. They've gotten good reviews here:
Bottom Line Telecommunications / ichq.com - shopblt.com/ - Reviews, Ratings and Prices at ResellerRatings
Of course, if you're patient, you can wait till the next time newegg has them in stock, and use the $10 new customer code to save. It's not worth the aggravation for me. -
There are other small sites selling this drive for around $10 cheaper, but none of them have them in stock, and they don't have many ratings in comparison to blt.

As of right now, the Intel 310 MSATA 80GB is in stock!
Newegg.com - Intel 310 Series (Soda Creek) SSDMAEMC080G2C1 mSATA 80GB mSATA (mini PCIe form factor) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - SSD
Also at BLT. 9 left.
Intel SSDMAEMC080G2C1 80GB MSATA SSD GEN2 MLC FLASH TECHNOLOGY SATA 3.0GB / S - BLT Catalog! -
Shoot, I got the 128Gb mSATA from mydigitaldiscount.com. I wonder if I should return it and get the potentially faster 80Gb Intel version. Does anyone think the differences might be large in day-to-day use?
-
The other site bugs me with the wrong picture, supposedly correct part number but this statement also bugs me:
"There currently is an estimated surplus of 3 units in stock. You should place an order now. Please be advised that other customers may have placed orders, which have not yet been processed, and we cannot guarantee that the stock shown will be allocated to an order you place." -
Newegg is out of stock now! That was a whoppin' 40 minutes since I put my order in.
-
My sales rep told me Insight is getting some in around May 24th, I have one backordered with them already.

Newegg.com - SiliconDust HDHomeRun PRIME CableCARD - Access Cable TV Anywhere on Your Network HDHR3-CC Ethernet Interface -

That may have been me. There was 1 left when I ordered mine. I'm hoping that number was correct and the order goes through... -
-
It's amazing how fast these are going in and out of stock.
I was lucky enough to get mine at the end of April with a 10% off coupon, 170.99. I think they were a little easier to come by at that point. -
-
I ended up ordering a 40 lol. Yeah worse write performance but I can live with that considering its my programs/windows drive. Read performance is very similar anyways.

I'll sell my Series 310 80GB for $600.
-
avadirect.com had a few in stock. Price was marked up a bit to $210 + shipping, though.
-
Just received my Intel 310 from bltshop.com today, after ordering Fri afternoon. Very quick. Packaged well. Now just need the x220 to come in (and that already got to Louisville)
-
Still awaiting on my 310 from provantage.. I ordered May 3rd.. but they HORRIBLY screwed up shipping on my order.. so I had to wait for the 7 days for it to travel to the wrong destination (because apparently their shipping department couldn't reroute the package, even though UPS says they could). Then I had to wait 7 days for it to be returned to sender. Now I'm waiting another 7 days for them to ship it back to me......
-
I backordered one that should come during the next few days at:
Intel SSDMAEMC080G2C1 80 GB Internal Solid State Drive (SSDMAEMC080G2C1) in Canada - Fast Shipping 1.866.800.8060
I talked to a guy there, and it didn't sound like many were spoken for yet. And while the image is of course of the 2.5" drive, the item number most certainly is of the 80GB 310 mSATA. Confirmed in person (it's a local shop here in Vancouver, with a few warehouses in Canada). -
AVADirect says "low stock". Do you trust them?
-
Check resellerratings.com . It's one of the few places you can get information about how others experiences have been overall.
They have a very high rating there.
AVADirect Custom Computers / Freedom USA, Inc. - avadirect.com - Reviews, Ratings and Prices at ResellerRatings -
Why get an old generation of the intel ssd? Why not get the new 320 series? It sells for cheaper and you'd get better performance? I don't get it...
Newegg.com - Intel 320 Series SSDSA2CW080G310 2.5" 80GB SATA II MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - SSD -
You can combine an 80GB mSATA SSD as a boot drive along with a 320GB or 500GB HDD for example. -
Intel 320 (SATA)
Intel 310 (mSATA)
-
FYI, for those who are still trying to hunt one down, the 80gb mSATA drive is now back in stock on newegg! Newegg.com - Intel 310 Series (Soda Creek) SSDMAEMC080G2C1 mSATA 80GB mSATA (mini PCIe form factor) MLC Internal Solid State Drive (SSD) - SSD
I'd grab it fast before they sell out again -

I wouldn't put much faith in PV's stock count.
For it to be correct, they would have shipped me the one I backordered on weds. Stilling waiting on a x220 tablet that was supposedly in stock last friday, and today... -
Amazon has em from a few retailers (Price Pros, ANTonline). They've all been saying "only 2 left" since yesterday. I just bit ths morning, we'll see what happens...
-
-
I just ordered from Amazon (Price Pros).
-
AVADirect cancelled my previous order because they were actually out of stock. I feel fortunate to have snagged one from Newegg.
-
...and I just received a cancellation from Price Pros because:
"Due to an unusual spike in demand for the item you ordered, we had unexpectedly ran out of stock. All of our efforts to try and locate the item among all of our suppliers were unsuccessful." -
I will say, which I think is relevant, that I find it hard to believe that literally every time Intel comes out with a new SSD, it's in such short supply. I personally believe it's deliberate to help keep prices artificially high. I've seen this pattern with Intel SSDs from the beginning.
Intel makes billions of chips per year. There is no shortage of Intel processors and computers with them.
The supply of their standard SATA SSDs has stabilized, but now with these msata ones they are in short supply. Because I think Intel just isn't making many of them. Either way I find it a very disturbing trend. Intel is in a very strong position to rein in these high SSD prices, but they wont. -

Good point but I don't need a court to see the truth.
