Uhh I've never had a ThinkPad that comes with that screw...the optical drive is supposed to be removable?

If that screw is there, the DVD/CD burner (in my case it is a 500GB SSD now) is firmly positioned.

I did not know about this screw before. I just got a new T530 with a screw in that place.

Because no screw there, my 500GB SSD loses connection sometimes. Now I am using a tape tightly put there.

    Regards.

Home Depot or other hardware store? Hardware manual says M3 × 5 mm, flat-head (1)

Home Depot for this screw? Never thought of. Interesting.

Thanks for your info! Will give it a try.

    Best.

This is a security screw and generally not used. They shipped with the laptops in a small envelope and were intended to be used to keep people from stealing the ultrabay devices, or perhaps swapping them with non-working parts. You shouldn't have to use one and if your adapter doesn't latch firmly in place then I suspect it's either a cheap generic part, or there is something wrong with it, or the bay itself.

I'm not sure if this is the correct one for your model, but here is an ebay auction that closes tomorrow for screw and trackpoint caps in original packaging

IBM ThinkPad P N 91P8421 41V9708 Track Point Tips and Security Screws | eBay

You can check the part numbers and see if it looks compatible with your model.

I remember that the Ultrabay screw head that came with my T61 was allen key shaped. From your picture alone, it looks to be the same size as the T61.
