Dont really want to buy it retail but id like to atleast hold it, or see it. does anyone have any idea's of a store that might carry thinkpads?

So far ive hit up the bestbuy and a few stores at the mall but i'd like to actually hold the IBM model, also every store so far has had weights on thier notebooks (iassume to prevent theft) This makes it very hard to see how heavy a notebook really is

hopefully i can find a store, even if i dont ill still buy IBM :p

I give you a 1% chance of being able to find one. You'd have to find a big corporate reseller in your area and even then they won't have a showroom. You best bet is to try and track down someone who owns one.

J&R in NYC and I think Frys on the West Coast carries a few. Those are the only ones I know of. Good Luck.

Thinkpads can be found in college bookstores/computer stores. Where are you living? go to the big colleges around there.

I was in the same boat a while ago.
Our local expo center has computer shows several times a year and there are a lot of dealers there selling used ones.
I got to see a lot of thinkpads and check out the general design and feel there.

the college bookstore one is a good suggestion actually, if you're willing to drive I'm sure there's at least one college within an hour that would sell IBM.

Just surfed over to Uconn.edu quickly and brought this up: http://www.bookstore.uconn.edu/fall2005.pdf

so they do sell IBM X40 / T43 notebooks there ... call 'em!
