I would like to purchase a T420 or X120e however it is difficult to find a online supplier that will accept a credit card from another country. I spoke to a representative from lenovo.com who said they didn't accept credit cards from overseas which left me out in the cold considering most of the specials and coupons are available there. Does anyone have any other options that might suit me? Basically I will be shipping it to a friend in America and he will bring it to me. I am in South America at the moment. I want to spend under $700 but it seems no one from lenovo wants to take my money !!

You could buy at eBay - these are good and reliable sellers: newthinkpads (this is where I bought mine and they delivered to Chile with no hassle), ellen_mouse, thinkpadforever.
Or alternatively you can use a forwarding service / company, for example Shipito that provides Assisted purchase and then they ship the purchase to you. Another option is SkyBOX que hablan español. Keep in mind that you might also need to pay some import duties to your local Customs. Suerte!

Thanks !! The ebay store looks good. Now to decide which laptop to buy. I will be playing HD movies and music, as well as web browsing and multi tasking so I would prefer a computer with decent speed. I don't want it too big though, so a screen between 12" and 14" would suit me. I can't decide between the ideapad series and the thinkpad series. So far I have looked at the Z470, E420, T420 and x120e. Any recommendations for something under $900 would be great, I plan on having this laptop for 3 years+. Thanks

Will there be much difference if I take the i3 instead of the i5 to save $200? Also do you know about the quality of the refurbished lenovos from the ebay user thinkpadforever?

Performance wise it's not a big hit unless you're pushing the CPU, but I would mention no pre-configured X220i with the i3 have the IPS screen and you want the IPS.

You can buy the laptop from Lenovo website and use Amazon checkout which accepts international credit cards

Sorry, I wasn't able to reply to this post. Frankly I have no idea about the quality of their refurbished items.. Just curious, what seller did you choose and which laptop?

I got a T420 for the larger screen.. Even though the reviews say the screen is crap, I will post my thoughts once I have it in my hands. I bought off the ebay user "ellen_mouse", I paid $860 + free shipping for the following

    New T420:
    Intel Core i5-2540M (2.60GHz low speed, 3.3GHz at Turbo Frequency 2 Cores, 4 Threads CPU), 8GB RAM DDR 1333Mhz (4GB Pre-installed + additional 4GB Module), 500GB 7200rpm Hard Drive, 14.0” HD+ 1600x900 LED Backlit Antiglare Display, Intel HD Graphics 3000 (Sandy Bridge Technology), DVDRW, Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205 WiFi 802.11agn, WWAN Option, Bluetooth 3.0, USB 3.0, eSATA, DisplayPort, 1Gb Ethernet, UltraNav Touchpad, 9c Li-Ion, Win7 Pro 64

Not the best deal I have seen but still happy, shipped in 2 days to my friend in the states.. He is going to bring it to me when I see him at work next week. I made sure they checked the screen for any dead pixels because I have read problems about that as well.

Well it arrived, with my friend. After taking it out of the box I was suprised at how light it was compared to what I was expecting... I plugged in the battery and power cord and turned it on.. Only it didn't turn on, after checking the power output to make sure it had power I was lost and a bit worried - did I get a lemon??

However after 5 minutes of taking the battery out and fiddling I hit the power button again and boom - it turned on to my delight. No dead pixels and the screen looked alright. Not amazing but good enough. Updated all my drivers and now I am using it.

I have the 9 cell battery and so far it seems to last 8-10 hours with movies, music, internet browsing usage at intervals. The battery has 92.11Wh capacity after 2 full power recycles. It plays 1080p movies fine with no problems, I didn't realise how badly xvid movies look when viewed on a bigger screen than a netbook. You can see squares and the picture quality sucks !! I might become one of those people who only watches tv/videos in at least 720p quality. Overall very happy with the laptop, it doesn't feel very strong however I am not willing to test it and I will trust those that say they are built well.
