Just curious how many people are using or would like to use 2 OS's on their Thinkpads, and if so which ones?

I've found windows 7 RC 7100 is much faster than XP in general usage and almost as good as XP for gaming, but many drivers haven't been optimized yet for Win 7.

My SSD only has Windows 7. However, the stock HDD (usually collecting dust in a drawer) has Vista Business 64, Ubuntu 8.10, and XP Tablet PC edition. Therefore I'm not sure exactly how I should answer.

Keep in mind no OS X on PC hardware discussion is allowed here.

I used to dual boot Vista Business 64 and Ubuntu 8.10 x64 for awhile then changed to Vista Business 64 and Debian Lenny 5.0 x64 and now I don't dual boot at all. I just run Vista Business x32. So I guess I don't know how to answer either :p

Yes. OSX on PC Hardware is against the Forum Rules (presumably because Apple's EULA expressly forbids it).

I don't know about hilarious, perhaps a bit odd. They have a whole sub forum dedicated to it on ThinkPads.com, but that's the way it goes around here.

Apple's EULA does allow an owner of an Apple computer to make 1 backup copy of their OS on another hard drive. As it does not go on to say anything about what you can and can not do for your own personal use with that backup, you can go ahead and make some adjustments to that backup and then stick the hard drive wherever you want, let's say, in your thinkpad. After that, well it ain't my fault if the damn thing happens to boot as well.

I am not going to argue the finer points of Apple's EULA because one I'm not a lawyer and two it's not my place to say. That's the way we roll around here. If you want to do this you'll have to find the information somewhere more permissive of this type of discussion.

Understood. Interesting as it is to discuss the topic it's not my intention to go against the rules.

People putting OS X on a PC is quite mild comparatively. Seeing of how much piracy there is out there. Right now pirated copies of Windows 7 are being sold in China for 7.99 USD, Apple is so tight on their agreements like their OS is the be all and end all.

I used to dual boot back in the day, but the part that sucks is if you want to change something you redo the whole thing, which can be a time consuming process for two OSes. I decided one OS per machine. Since all my machines have Blu-ray drives, which is difficult at best in Linux, I'm running some form of Windows on all machines. I'm in the process of building a Linux box so I won't have to mess with it down the road. Or I could run OS X if I decided I wanted to do so, though as a recent Mac owner, I didn't find it to be the utopian experience that others seem to.

I am not the largest fan of OSX myself, it works and there is nothing wrong with it but on the same token there is nothing special about it.

I think the #1 thing I like about a Mac is the multi touch funciton so that you can use 2 fingers to scroll and stuff. However since the EEE 1000H has that I found myself with no real reason to use OSX or a Mac. Infact the EEE does it so well I have a Logitech Nano for it and I never even use it.

I used to dual boot... back in 2005. i find it more of a hassle than anything else now. Running windows 7 plain and simple here.
