Which Lenovo/IBM laptop, is the best for gaming and photoshop?
-
According to your signature, Dell 17".
-
The Dell for me... the IBM/Lenovo fo my friend... he doesn't like Dell...
so? which laptop? -
W520 with an Nvidia 2000 and a FHD. Probably.
-
Ok, thanks

Personally, I think that asking about what's the best ThinkPad for gaming is like asking what's the best airplane for going to the supermarket...
-
The thing is that the Thinkpads are not really gaming machines. -
I've heard good things about the W520 running Starcraft 2, and I know the FHD display w/ 95% gamut would be great for Photoshop.
What kinds of games are you planning on playing? Starcraft 2 and Portal 2 on high settings with the shaders turned down to medium run just fine on my NVIDIA QFX 770M which is less powerful than the NVIDIA QFX 1000M/2000M -

I am not surprised to see gamers looking for business notebooks. All the "consumer" level divisions of the major companies (Dell, HP..) have basically demonstrated they are experts at making shoddy products and having terrible/incompetent customer support. Even gamers and home users want a well built machine that comes will solid technical support if they need help. I do not think I would recommend a consumer level Windows 7 based machine to anybody.

ThinkPads are not geared towards gaming. You would be better off with an IdeaPad as they actually have gaming GPUs.
-
Except IdeaPads don't have great screens for Photoshop. IdeaPads are like HP DV6 laptops, in which they have have good gaming power, while screen quality and resolution upgrades are basically overlooked and ignored.
A good gaming and photo editing laptop (that won't necessarily get great battery life unfortunately, but I've heard it can still achieve 3 hours) would be a Sager NP8130 with the 95% gamut matte display upgrade. Even the 60% gamut glossy 1920x1080 display would be better than anything you can find on an IdeaPad. -
W520 hands down. It can game and has a great screen. (9 hours of battery life too.)

How bout a 17" HP Elitebook? The last gen can be had with an IPS screen and 1920x1200 rez, and the newer gen is 1080p. Both are great for gaming and have IPS.
I personally am going to save the gaming for the desktop in favor of battery life. I like the idea of the x220 with 9 cell battery - 15 hours! -
I really wish they could stuff a Nvidia GT 555M card in it. For me, it would be a perfect laptop. Oh well.
