Not that I am complaining in any way, but I have observed that support/help for the ThinkPad X61 is fairly limited compared to i.e. the T61 due to the latter's popularity. Hence, I often find answers to my questions on forum.thinkpads.com instead, as they have separate model series boards such as X60/X61 series.

In any case, I can understand that many of the Lenovo board members have chosen another ThinkPad, given that the X-series in many way is not a mainstream notebook. The size limitation, exclusion of i.e. dedicated graphics and built-in DVD and maybe also the price will make i.e. many students (which there seem to be a lot of on this board) choose another ThinkPad alternative.

Which brings me to my question. Which ThinkPad do you own? There may have been older threads about the same subject, but I couldn't find any when searching.

Please choose an alternative. Note that you can choose multiple if you own more than one model.

    1) R-series
    2) T-series
    3) X-series (including Tablets)

    4) Z-series
    5) G-series
    6) A-series
    7) I-series
    8) S-series (quite rare)

    9) Other/Older

I own my first T61. Actually, it's my second, but that's because I returned my first one ;)

Since one cannot register 2 of the same model-series in the statistics, thanks for posting your input.

Used a T40 and then a 42 for about 4 years at my old job, then finally bought a nice 61 2 months ago for myself (finally got it 2 days ago).

DEFINITELY glad I didn't get an HP like I had planned on earlier.

Thank you for participating. It seems there are 3-4 times as many T-series owners as there are X-series owners. No wonder questions about the X61 come short sometimes.

I must say I am surprised by the lack of R-series owners as well.

In any case, it is very interesting to see the statistics. Very helpful.

I'm surprised by the lack of R series votes as well. I had an R40 that was a workhorse for 4 years and am waiting on delivery of an R61. I don't need Bluetooth/UWB or a good graphics card, though.

just bought a T61, and have a work-issued T30. both are very solid notebooks, the T30 has held up amazingly well.

Sorry to hear that. Did you get paid from the insurance company?

My dear old parents also just had a burglary. A very unpleasant experience. Their notebook was stolen as well. Just bought a 17" Acer Travelmate as a replacement for them. Big, cheap and surprisingly good quality considering the price.

    Thanks for your participation btw.

I have the pleasure of configuring a T61 for my daughter who will be leaving for college this week. I've been "helping" her by doing a clean install and puzzling over the benefits of various ThinkVantage utilities. It's been a fun week since receiving the unit! Once she's gone, I guess I'll have to go back to working on my golf game.

What a dad! She should consider herself lucky. In most cases I think it is the other way around.

I cannot recall how many times I have tried to guide my dad over the phone. Recently when I bought an Acer for him via the web, I had to spend several days calling from Asia to Europe to guide him through Vista and updates/driver installation. Quite a challenge considering that he is the type who often does not know which mouse button to click and who uses the 1-finger typing system.

I used to do this for my Mom, discovered a way to fix it myself and avoid the aggravation of hearing her say, "your going to fast" or "I dont see that"...Its called logmein. Allows you to remotely login to their pc, install programs, updates, fix problems, and clean things up like you were sitting in their den. Meanwhile they can see you control their computer on the screen in front of them. Make it easy on yourself, and the best part....ITS FREE! Google it!

Thanks. I know of the concept. I used to use remote access when I was living in the same region. Worked well.

But with the very slow connection between Asia and Europe (and vice-versa) it takes forever to do this. More than often you get time-outs which more or less makes it impossible to carry out any configuring.

Ι was given by my cousin, an IBM Thinkpad T30 which I use as an alternative
to my Toshiba satellite...The former is not as new as the latter but I like its convenient size and storage capability..
